SUMMARY

The name of the article for this report is “Price hikes may stay longer than expected: Supply chain
issues are not being fixed as quicky as Bank of Canada hoped” in the Toronto Star Newspaper by
The Canadian Press which was published on 16 oct, 2021.
This article explains the situation of prices in Canada that the proliferating prices in this pandemic
year may persist for a long time than what was expected by everyone which would eventually
result in steady economic growth. What has happened worldwide is a sharp bounce back in
purchaser spending especially for products that should be transported through supply chains that
have been harmed by a sharp drop popular last year, and continuous COVID-19 flare-ups and
general wellbeing measures. This influences inventories of popular customer items and the
conveyance of parts expected to assemble things like vehicles and pushes up transportation costs
that get passed on to purchasers. What's more, simultaneously, transporting defers mean families
can't get products as quick as they need, which means their spending is postponed, which nibbles
into the speed of development. Everything relates to these supply-chain restrictions about which
worldwide counterparts are talking.

BUSINESS TOPIC ANALYSIS

The topic has taken from the chapter one “Introduction to Business” and the content is about “Inflation”
which is related to this article as this article also explains about the hiking of prices in Canada. Inflation
is known as the situation in which the average of all prices of goods and services is rising. Inflation’s
higher prices reduce purchasing power, the value of what money can buy. Purchasing power is influenced
by two things: inflation and income. If incomes rise at the same rate as inflation, there is no change in
purchasing power. If price go up but income doesn’t rise or rises at a slower rate, a given amount of
income buys less purchasing power falls.

BUSINESS TERM

The relevant business term from the article is supply which can be defined as “the quantity of a good
or service that businesses will make available at various prices (p.27). In this article, we can see that
due to sharp rebound in consumer’s spending especially for merchandise should be delivered through
supply chains which have been destroyed by sharp decline in demand previous year.

PERSONAL IMPACT

I have learnt plenty of things from this assignment that how I can search or find a business-
related articles from Seneca’s Library Database plus how these articles help in boosting knowledge
and experience. Additionally, I enjoyed this research report as it is very interesting and easy to find
data from it. Moreover, I grabbed information that how I can relate topics with the chapters studied
in the class to explore more adequate resources. I have chosen this topic because it is quite
fascinating and I was so keen to know and gather information about “Inflation” that how economies
handle the situation in the market when prices increase and by doing this report, I understood the
whole concept. In my opinion, if one needs to know more about markets and how these work, the
Seneca library database is best to learn about it as compared to google or Wikipedia where finding
information is so difficult.
