How to avoid waterborne diseases?

Reliable access to clean drinking water and sanitation are the main methods to prevent

waterborne diseases. The aim is to break the fecal–oral route route of disease transmission.

Listed below are some tips on how you can prevent contracting water-related diseases:

 Ensure that the water you use is boiled, filtered and disinfected.
 Wash your hands properly and follow proper sanitation practices.
 Do not drink unfiltered water. Always carry a portable filter or only drink boiled water
while traveling to ensure you drink clean water.
 Avoid eating stale cooked food, unrefrigerated food kept exposed outside for long hours.
 Ensure all your food is washed and thoroughly cooked before eating.
 Use disposable glass and plates whenever possible when eating outside.
 Take vaccinations for immunization against preventable diseases like
Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Polio, etc.

World Health Organisation(WHO) estimates that 94% of water borne diseases are preventable
through modifications to the environment and interventions to increase the availability of clean
water, and by improving sanitation and hygiene.
