There is a diverse array of animals that are crucial and influential to the lives of the last

remaining hunter gatherer tribes. These include both small and large game, as well as insects.

While the obvious use of these creatures is for direct sustenance in the form of food, they also

play a role in a more ceremonial capacity, in addition to companionship. Larger wildlife like

baboons and the deerlike kudu are hunted for their meat as well as their pelts, teeth and

antlers. Small game is used as small meals in between periods where larger game is scarce. The

hunter gatherers were also seen harvesting honeycombs from beehives for quick bursts of

energy. This is not to say that animals are only prey to these tribes. Working alongside the

hunters are dogs, helping to track and bring down prey, they are a very important aspect of

their lives

While these tribes still adhere to many of their traditional methods of subsistence, they have

still embraced a handful of modern amenities to help with their survival. One of the most

striking tools used by these tribes are forged metals shaped into knives or axes. While it is

possible for them to retain the older materials, these modern innovations help speed up their

daily routines and cut down on tool maintenance. While potentially less impactful as modern

tools made from alloys, the appearance of modern textiles and footwear displays a willingness

to accept slight modifications to their daily lives.
