The maps illustrate how the town of Landside was

transformed over the period between 2000 and

2009. Generally speaking, the area was
significantly modernized with more infrastructural
development.
To begin with, the town in 2000 was greener with a
large area of woodland running from the south to
the north. However, nine years after that, a vast
proportion of trees to the south of the river was
chopped down to give the way for an expended
industrial complex, which also took the place of a
residential area in the southeast of the town. The
lake in the center of the woodland was reduced in
size to become a smaller pond.
Further development occurred to the north side of
the river with various conversions of the buildings.
More specifically, the art and the river-bank-based
residential area were turned into a multi-screen
cinema and a shopping center respectively. New
offices were constructed in the place of what used
to be the Old Town with a car park replacing the
derelict warehouse to the north. Also, the town’s
school was moved towards a newly-built university
which was erected in close proximity to the pond.
The only building which did not undergo any
changes was the residential area in the northwest
of the town.
