“Bakit hindi na sapat umasa sa “Filipino Resilience”?”

For me, Filipino resilience is one of the strong points of us Filipinos but I think
that it is being exploited. Resilience is not a bad thing but we should not let people
suffer just because they can stand back up anyways. Governments are made to help
people, when calamities such as typhoons occur in our country the people should be
the ones relying to our government for help, not the government relying to the resilience
of our people. Even though Filipinos can stand back again with their own feet because
of our so called “resilience” that doesn’t change the fact that our government holds the
responsibility to protect and help their own people. Even though it might be impossible
for us now to foresaw what calamities might occur, it won’t hurt us if we prepare for the
worse. There may be programs that our government do to prepare us from such
disasters like the Nationwide Earthquake Drills conducted, but we don’t have a concrete
plan to help or support people when a calamity hits. In short, the government may be
trying to prepare for future problems, but it is still not enough to prevent Filipinos to
experience such sufferings when a calamity hits.
