a) i) Explain why is it important to conduct the frequency domain analysis on a linear control
system.

i) By using the straight line approximation method, plot the bode plot of the open loop system
when K = 1.

ii) Determine the stability of the system based on the information obtained from the bode plot.

iii) Referring to the bode plot obtained in part b(i), determine the gain crossover and the phase
crossover frequencies.

iv) Find the range of K for the system to be stable.
[3 marks]
v) The phase margin, ∅𝑚 , reflects how much the output will produce an overshoot when tested
with step input. Find the new K (using the bode plot obtained) if the system is allowed an
overshoot of 30%.
