PHOTOCOPIABLE ACTIVITIES

PEOPLE

6A DESCRIBING PEOPLE
CHOICES

Use after: Module 6 Topic Talk

Interaction: whole class or smaller groups
Time: about 20 minutes
Materials: one piece of photo for each student

Instructions:
1 You can do this activity with the whole class or you could divide your class into smaller
groups of between 9 and 12.
2 Give out a piece of a photo to each student. Explain that it is part of a photo of a person
and that they must find the students in their class who have the other two pieces of
the photo. They must do this by describing the person on their photo. Tell them not to
show their photo to other students.
3 Give students five minutes to brainstorm how they could describe the person on their
piece of paper, e.g. He/She’s a pensioner/child/teenager/an adult/a baby. He/She is
about … months/years old. He/She is a waitress/a student/a bus driver. She/He is
interested in food/reading/sport. He/She is clever/friendly/hard-working/kind/moody/
outgoing/shy. Write some examples on the board.
4 Ask students to move around the room describing the person on their piece of paper
to other students. If they think they have part of the same person, they should join
together and continue to look for the final person together.
5 When they have found the other students, ask them to check by looking at each other’s
pieces of paper. If they are correct and the pieces of paper fit together, the group can
sit down. If they have made a mistake, they must continue looking.
6 When they have finished, get whole-class feedback on the correct descriptions of the
people in the photos and on how students used the target language.
