Guidelines for the course project “Analyzing the assessment practices in real ELT contexts”

This final paper for the course will take 30% of the course grade. This paper is expected to have
a high quality so that it matches the spirit and conception of the course.
Type of document: Critical report regarding the assessment practices in real ELT contexts.
In order to write your critical report, you should include relevant theories studied in the course,
excerpts from the teachers interviewed during the course, and articles related to assessment
procedures in English Language in teaching in Colombia from national journals (Profile, Ikala,
CALJ, HOW, Matices en Lenguas Extranjeras, Folios, Lenguaje, Educación y Educadores,
Signo y Pensamiento, Enletawa and Gist).
Length: 1500 words. Keep in mind the guiding questions to answer in each section. These words
could be distributed in the report as follows:
Title of the document

Introduction:
What is the importance of language assessment in English Language Teaching?
Why and what for should language teachers be prepared in terms of language assessment?

Conceptualization:
Explain how you interpret basic concepts discussed in the course.
What has been done in Colombia in the field of language assessment?

Analysis
What is the role of assessment in Colombian ELT scenarios?
What can be evidenced in the assessment practices of Colombian English teachers?
What types of assessment procedures are common in Colombian ELT contexts?
How are contextual assessment practices aligned with the theories and principles studied in the
course?
What are the challenges in language assessment in Colombian contexts?
Conclusions and implications:
What did you learn from the experience of comparing and contrasting the theory and practice?
After analyzing the Colombian context, what are the implications in terms of language
assessment? Strengths? Opportunities for improvement?

References
Include all the references integrated into the document (only those ones) and keep in mind APA
