Marine Pollution: Assignment 2 (70%)

Candidates are given the opportunity to choose any topic within the main types of marine pollution
that will be discussed throughout the lectures and to develop a case study on the selected topic. In
your case study you need to answer the following questions:

1. What is the source (or sources) of pollution?

(AC 1.1; 10 marks)

2. What are the direct and indirect implications of such pollution?

(AC 2.1; 10 marks)

3. How would you evaluate the ecological, economic and social impact of such pollutions?
(AC 3.1; 10 marks)

4. Which pollutants would you monitor for and how would you measure such pollutants?
(AC 4.1, 4.2; 15 marks)

5. How would you prevent, or if it is too late, how would you mitigate the effects that might be
observed in the ecosystem?
(AC 5.1; 15 marks)

6. What International conventions and pollution mitigation would you refer to?
(AC 6.1; 10 marks)

Instructions:

- This is a group assignment. Each group can be made up of 4 participants.

- This assignment covers 70% of the course’s assessment
- You need to present a 20 minutes presentation on 17th December 2021 or 18th December
2021. Marks will also be allocated for the following:
