1. A block of wood 0.20 m thick is floating in sea water. The specific gravity of wood is 0.68
while that of a seawater is 1.025. Find the minimum area of a block which will support a
man weighing 85 kg.

A 5 kg steel plate is attached to one end of a 0.1m x 0.3m x 1.2 m wooden pole, what
is the length of the pole above water? Sg of wood = 0.50. Neglect buoyant force on the steel.

PROBLEM NUMBER 4.
A cube of wood (sp. Gr= 0.60) has 9 inches sides. Compute the magnitude and
direction of the force required to hold the wood completely submerged in water.
