3.1. Design a half-wavelength dipole antenna, resonating at 300 MHz using NEC software.
Calculate the wavelength corresponding to the resonant frequency and the length of the
antenna.

Wavelength =

Lambda 1
= =0.5
2 2
c 3∗108
Lambda = = =1
f 300∗106

3.3. Determine the radiation resistance and the reactance at the resonant frequency, for a half
wavelength dipole antenna. Compare the results with the theoretical ones. Comment.

R = 44.9532, Z = 77.5761
Theoretical values are: R = 42.5, Z = 73.
The values are different due to production environment and materials

3.4. For the resonance frequency, calculate analytically the efficiency when the antenna is fed
with a transmission line with Zc= 50 Ω.

Za−Zc 89.65−50
Reflection coefficient = = =0.28
Za+ Zc 89.65+50
.e r =( 1−( 0.28 )2) =( 1−0.0784 )=0.9216

3.5. Represent the gain of the antenna for the resonant frequency to 300 MHz and determine
the gain and the bandwidth of the antenna from the Pattern window.

Bandwidth = 910 MHz

3.6. In the last examples an ideal thin wire was

used for the simulation. But in practice the wire
radius must be increased to get some mechanical
stability.

The impedance and the reflection coefficient

increases.
