FOREWORD [As practices in road construction change over timo, tis imperative for Jabatan Kerja Raya (UKR) to continuously update and improve their standard specifications. These now specications are not only aimed at keeping abreast with currant technologies but also helping in improving the quality of constructed product. n unison, these new specifications have @ significant positive impact on the constuction industry especially with the incorporation of new products and technologies. Standard Spectication for Road Works is an essential component in the road infrastructure constuction Industry. Tis specication provides an improved guidance in the material selection and the production of good quality workmanship and product, based on current best practions. The purpose of this standard specification isto establish uniformity in road works to be used by road designers, road authorties, manufacturers and suppliers of road related products ‘This document “Standard Specification for Road Works - Section 2: Earthworks” isa part, ofa series of improved speciicatons in the Standard Spectication for Road Works. The compilation ofthis document was carried out through many discussions by the technical committee members. Adlionally it has been presented at a technical workshop held on 1 March 2011. Feedbacks and comments received were carefuily considered and Incorporated in the specication where eppropriate, ‘This Specicaion had also been presented in the Mesyuarat Jawatankuasa Spesifikas! Tha work shal ‘also include the demoltion and dsposal of structures in the said areas, ‘except where otherwise provided for in the Contract, 35 speciied herein ‘and as required by he S.0. 2.4.1.1 Site leering Clearing chal consist of cutting andlor taking down, removal and disposal ‘of everthing above ground level, Including objects overhanging the areas to be cleared such ae tree branches, except such tees, vegetation, structures or parts of structures, and other thing which are designated in ‘the Contract to remain, or be removad by athers, or which the §.0. directs ‘are to be left undisturbed, The mater to be cleared shall include but not necessarily be limited to trees, stumps (parts above ground), logs, brushwood, undergrowth, long grasses, crops, loose vegetable matter anc structures (except those structures whose removal of clearance is ctherwise provided for inthe Contract). Clearing stall aso include leveling of obsolete dikes, terraces, ditches, et., unless otherwise directed by the 80. 2.44.2Geubbing rubbing shall consist of removal and disposal of surface vegetation, bases of stumps, roots, underground parts of structures, and other obstructions to a depth of at least 0.50 m below ground level, wih the agreement ofthe $0. 24.4.8 Sipping Topsoil ‘Sipping topsol shall consist of the removal of topsoil to an average depth fat least 100 mm below ground level, and its stockpiling for use in the Works, andlor its eisposa, as directed by the S.0, 2.4.4.4 Dumping [Al materials esuted from site clearing shal be dumped tothe Contractor's dump site as approved by the S.0. Method statement on dumping with particular emphasis on prevention of environmental poliuton shall be submited tothe S.0. for approval so (or us372013.52) 242 Construction Methods 2.1.2.1 Areas tobe Gieared “The areas where the Works are to be carried out shall be cleared as descibed in Sub-Secton 2.1.1, unless otherwise shown on the Drawings andlor directed by the $.0. Clearing shall be cariod out to the extents deemed necessary and approved or directed by the S.O. in areas outside the road reserve where channel excavation or ether work s required, In areas which ae to be cleared only, and in which grubbing and stiping topsoil are not required, the methods of work shall be such as will ot Lnduly damage the surface vogotation and topsoil, and care shall be taken ot to istur the topsoil and the root systems of grasses and other surface vegetation. No topsoil shall be removed ffom such areas, excopt as rected by the S.0., and any topsoil, grasses and other surtace vegetation ‘otherwise removed or disturbed shal be replaced and made good at the Contractors onn expense, with the agreement of the $.0. 2.1.2.2 reas to be Cleared, Gaubbed and Stigped of Topsoil Uniess otherwise shown on the Drawings andior directed by the S.0.. A brief description of feach major structure (if any) and depth to which extent it shall be demolished is given Inthe Bil of Quantities. ‘All fences, buildings, structures, and encumbrances of any charactor within the limits of the road reserve, except those to be removed by others or designated to remain, shall be demolished and removed by the Contactor.
