EXERCISE 4A

1. Kinaray-a is a one of the minor languages classified under the Austronesian/Malayo-Polynesian


lineage.
2. It is the language spoken in most of West Visayas and across all of Antique, parts of Aklan and
Capiz, most of Iloilo, and even in Negros Occidental where the biggest number of sakadas,
seasonal workers in the haciendas, are Karay-a from Antique.
3. It’s referred to as Hinaray-a, sometimes Iraya, Hiraya, and Hiniraya in textbooks and works of
earlier scholars.
4. Seasonal workers in the haciendas who speak Kinaray-a.
5. Kinaray-a can be considered as one of the most prominent minor languages whose origin is
unsure of but still serves its purpose as medium for communication.

1. Karay-a oral lore is made up of gothic tales of the tamawo, the aswang, the maranhig, and other
characters of the Karay-a netherworld.
2. Olayra is a character created by Tordesillias for a serialized narration over the radio; Olayra is a
princess of the tamawo, who was made to live with mortals so she could marry one
3. Russel Tordesillas is the person who created and popularized the lore through radio DYKA.
4. Olayra: Princesa kang Dagat is all about a princess named "Olayra" who was made to live with
mortals so she could marry one.
5. What makes it significant is that the narrative is “Antique-centrc”; they are written from the
perspective that Antique is at the center of the tamawo universe.
6. The story “Olayra: Princesa kang Dagat” is significant to the Karay-a oral lore.
