"It was a calm morning.

Kohai woke up to his alarm, almost jolting up from his bed, and got
dressed as quickly as humanly possible. You may be wondering why he'd possibly be this
excited, but the reason is actually surprisingly obvious: that day, he had a date with his
crush, Shyn! He knew he loved Shyn the moment he saw him, it was truly love at first sight if
I've ever seen it. After so many months of denial (weirdly enough) and lack of courage to
express his true feelings to Shyn, he finally managed to do it. They were both in school (it
was recess) and it was a stormy day. The rain crashing against the school's roof sounded
almost like a big waterfall. You could say it was the perfect mood for taking all your feelings
out. Kohai thought:
"Well, if I don't do it now, when will I?"
He clenched his chest, tried throwing away all his shyness and walked up to Shyn, who was
eating his simple ham sandwich. It was nothing special, since sadly he never had enough
money for anything. His parents were always poor, so he consequently ended up exactly the
same. The boy really had a rough childhood, but managed to always look like he was
shining, you could say, and he always had a bright outlook on life. Anyways, with that out of
the way, let's get right to the point. When Kohai walked up to Shyn, he said:
"H-Hey, you're, um, Shyn, right? I've been waiting to tell you this for months.. Well, here
goes: I have feelings for you. I mean, I love you, and I've crushed on you for a long time... I
hope you feel the same towards me, but, if that's not the case, then I hope our friendship can
go on as normal... So..?"
As the young boy’s face lit up, he smiled and laughed, but it’s not as if he were laughing at
Kohai, instead, he laughed with him. With the biggest, shiniest smile on his face, he said:
“I knew it! Haha! Kohai, do you know just how obvious it was? Anyways… I’ve been waiting
for you to confess your feelings for a really long time, and that’s because I was really excited
to do the same! I was waiting for the right opportunity.. I love you, Kohai!”
Shyn said all that while sometimes pausing to giggle, still with the same smile on his face.
His smile was a gummy one, you could see almost all his teeth and part of his gums. To
Kohai, it was the prettiest and best smile in the whole world.
“U-Uh… Wait… Are you serious?! Please tell me this isn’t all just a prank… I guess I might
as well ask this then… Do you want to go out with me?”
He said that with such impact, it was almost unbelievable. After all, he was always the shy
and timid kid, having no interest in friends or generally speaking to others.
“Kohai… I’ll be the one who has to ask if you’re serious.. but if you are… of course! Of
course I want to go out with you! I love you too! Isn’t it obvious?”
And with that, the two arranged even the exact date and time for their date. The place they
were going to go was a cafe called “Sesame Honey Cafe”. It was a famous cafe in town, and
it wasn’t the cheapest, taking into account Shyn’s financial status, however, Kohai could be
considered decently rich, so he could certainly pay for it all. It was really no problem.
So, after all that, we’re back to the day of the date.
Kohai put on his fanciest clothes (which weren’t really too fancy... ), brushed his hair the best
he had ever brushed it and brushed his teeth for so long that they were genuinely shining.
This was an hour before the date, by the way. He was pretty much done an hour before, if
that can measure his real excitement. So, he turned on the TV, sat on his couch in a way
that he was sure would not mess up his hair and just watched his favorite sports channel
until it was around 10 minutes before the date.
When that moment finally came, he jolted up haphazardly from his couch, almost stubbing
his toe, and ran up to his car, turning it on and heading straight for the cafe that they had
chosen. It was actually pretty close to where he lived, but he didn’t want to be late
whatsoever. When he arrived, it was almost full, but he had reserved some seats. He looked
at all the tables’ numbers until he found the ‘chosen’ ones. He sat down and simply waited,
checking his phone for any possible messages from Shyn.
Shyn was actually late. He had no fast way of getting to the cafe, because of his financial
status. But none of that mattered to Kohai. All he wanted was to take Shyn on a date, no
matter if Shyn was late or not.
When the boy’s crush arrived, he saw him from far away, walking up to the cafe. He stared
at him and realized that he was truly in love. He thought:
“Is this what love really is? I never want to lose Shyn… Love truly is wonderful.”
Shyn entered the cafe and did the exact same thing Kohai did - check all the tables’
numbers until he found the one that was reserved. Kohai made sure to hide himself so it was
a surprise, and when the two looked at eachothers’ eyes, both of their faces immediately lit
up. They matched yet were polar opposites, just like the Sun and the Moon, yin and yang,
day and night.
