Complex Engineering Problem

Problem Statement:
You are working as a junior structural engineer in a design firm, and you have been assigned
to complete the preliminary design of the residential house. This residential plot is located in
the city of Karachi. The contractor is asking you to provide the following set of drawings for
the execution of construction work.
1. Architectural Drawing
a) Plan
b) Section
c) Elevation
2. Structural Detailing Drawing
a) Beam Framing Plan
b) Beam Detailing Drawing
c) Column Detailing Drawing
d) Slab Detailing Drawing
e) Footing Detailing Drawing
Requirements:
1. You can use the existing architectural and structural plan of your home, or you can take
a typical plan of 120 sq yards (ground only) for this assignment.
2. Use AUTOCAD for the preparation of architectural and structural drawings.
3. For structural analysis using any software like GRASP, ETAB, or SAP.
4. Present all calculations in the final report.
5. Use A3 pages for all drawings.
Instructions for Submission:
1. Make a group of two members and fill the attached Performa and submit it to your
concerned teacher before 25th November 2021.
2. Before 10th December 2021, submit a hard copy of the complete architectural drawing
on A3 pages. Use both sides of A3 sheets.
3. Get confirmation from your teacher then proceed to the preparation of structural
drawing.
4. Complete all drawings and submit before 3rd January 2021.
5. Submit all drawing on A3 size pages.
Marks Distribution:
Total Marks = 20
• Architectural Drawing = 05 marks
• Structural Drawing = 15 marks
