MEDICATION THE CHILDREN WITH SEVERE DEHYDRATION DUE TO THE

DIARRHEA

1. To tell somebody what to do


 Teach the patient’s parents about child care, provision of food and drink,.
 Teach the about signs of dehydration and immediately take it to the doctor.
 Explain the medicine given, side effect, and that uses.
 Monitoring nutrition intake to minimize nutritional disorders that occur.
 Wash hands with soap and water after defeciating or urinating and before
preparing food for children.
 Continue breastfeeding if the child is still breastfeeding.
 Give extra fluid to children such as ORS, food liquid, or boiled water.
 Give zinc tablets for 10 days at a dose 1 tablets (20mg) per day.
 Routine skin turgor observation.
 Measure feces and output and urinating.

2. To tell somebody what not to do


 Don’t give food can cause of gas, such as green leafy vegetable, broccoli, and
corn.
 Don’t give the child dairy products, fatty foods, or sweet foods until condition
imprve.
 Don’t give more than recommended dosage.
 Don’t reglect excessive discharge in children.
 Don’t underestimate the diarrhea that occurs in children.

3. To emphasize what is important


 Make sure the patient’s parents that dehydration in children is not something
trivial.
 Make sure children consume lots of fluids.
 Make sure the food as given to children is easy to eat.
 Make sure parents always wash their hands after defeciating or urinating, and
before preparing food to children.
 Make sure observe the skin turgor.

 May I explain about the medicine given earlier?
 Can I do a vital check on your child?
 Shall I help you to take the medicine for your child?
 Do I need to teach you how to wash your hands properly?
 Can I give medicine to your child now?

Instruction Charts

The medical treatment for severe dehydration due to diarrhea:

1. Give the extra liquid to patient as much as the child wants.


2. If the child doesn’t get exclusive breastfeeding, give 1 or more another liquid such as
ORS, food liquid or boiled water.
3. Routine skin turgor observation.
4. Monitoring nutrition intake to minimize nutritional disorders.
5. Measure the feces outputs and urinate.
6. Teach the patient’s parents (mother) how to mix and give ORS.
7. Show to patient’ mother how to much liquid such as ORS which must be given in
addition to the daily fluid needs. Giving about 50-100 ml of liquid each defeciating
time.
8. Say to patient’ s parents in order to drink it little by little but often.
9. Give zinc tablets for 10 days at a dose of 1 tablets (20mg) per day.
10. Continue feeding and breastfeeding.
