Kato’s 600 VAC “Kato Rig Power" alternators are built
for the world ol driling market. Units are built to couple
with diesel engine drives, and meet or exceed the load
characteristics and the electrical and mechanical
requirements of marine and land oil well drilling
applications,
‘The "Kato Rig Power” package, comprised of stator, rotor
and exciter is designed to withstand salt air atmospheres,
high humidity, and moderate shock and vibrations.

DESIGNED FOR ENDURANCE
Excitation: The Kato brushless exciter system is an optimum power
‘source with fewer components and greater relabilty. It minimizes voltage
dip and provides rapid recovery time following sudden appliad loads,
‘The brushless exciter is also designed for ease of maintenance. The
DC. field leads are easily disconnected from the rotating rectifier
assembly for insulation resistance test to measure and evaluate the
conditions of the field windings after prolonged usage.
Class F Insulation: The use of Class F insulation is standard on all
alternators, Kato stators and rotors are assembled with rectangular
‘magnetic wire, a polyester varnish, two layers of dacron glass tape, then
processed through Kato's vacuum pressure impregnation process in
400% solids semi-tigid epoxy. This quality insulation system assures
long life and reliable operation of your alternator. Kato alternators do
not require scheduled overspraying insulation after continuous
‘operations.
Standoff Terminal Connectors: The Kato Rig Power alternator has
lead separation box with bus bar standoff kits, for easy connection or
“isconnection of the load leads enabling the operators to easily evaluate
ae conditions of the windings by measuring (megging) the insulation
resistance.
Bullt to Standards: All SCR alternators can be built to meet marine
regulatory body requirements such as IEC, EN (European Std), BS,
IEEE, NEMA and can be certified to Lloyd's, DNV, and BASEEFA (U.K).
Important Features Include:
* Class F humidity resistant form wound coils (vacuum pressure
impregnated).
+ Open dripproot enclosures with non-corrosive hardware. (Totally
enclosed fan cooled, totally enclosed air heat exchanger cooled, water
heat exchanger cooled, filtered—Optional,)
+ Special filtering for desert applications available. (Optional)
+ Standoff terminal connectors for easy load lead connection.
* Conduit Box — oversized and full accessabilty. Can be mounted on
left or right side
+ Two bearing design.

‘The VPI insulation process is to be considered our most critical phase of
manufacturing ast insures vold free windings. The 100% solids epaxy resin used
inthe process isthe key ingredient that allows Kato to achieve total Class F ratings
‘on al slettcal windings.
“Two typas of epoxy resins are used for the Kato Rig Power alternators. A 100% sem:
rigid epoty Is used for the stator windings. The flexible epoxy allows movement for
the end winding without ceaoking during short circut conditions which are always
‘associated with fring the SCR’s, The rigid epoxy system used forthe rotor insures
high bond strength between wires and uniform coll movement caused by centrifugal
and thermal expansion forces.
‘Over twenty years of experience has shown that an epoxy based system is superior
to polyester based varnishes for protection against moisture, salt, and most other
‘enuronmental contaminants. Kato alternators donot require periodic epory based over-
‘oat applications to protect windings against these environmental elements.
