WEEK 1

GIS
-allows us to model the real world
-provide them necessary data with CLUP and development plans
-allocating where certain activities can be improved
-encompass/regulate the kinds of activities in this area

Culmination Project
-Proposal Course Project
-Need to go back to the research paradigms

Spatial data
-has location
-to map out things that we want to exist in the future
-ie land use plans
-map out data from the past

*Can be used to compute things that changed.

-From forest to quarries

-Think of the different dimensions where we live with Map Layers.

Temporal Perspectives: then put them in layers and find the meaning

Course Req:
2.5% My Take Away for Today: padlet, topic specific, shared among the classmates
2.5% Learning Diary: individual learning log for reflections ideas and challenges
with the topic and activitity, how do u plan to address the issue, private
40% Exercises: 5 hands on to enhance and evelop design skills and GIS basic
skillset
15% Midterm exam: asynch using QGIS and GDocs, magpapasa rin ng ibang files

20% Research Proposal: culmination project will have guidelines

10% Proposal Presentation: will have rubrics

_____________

GIS
*create geographic data
*manage geographic data in databases
*analayze
*visualize

Helps us undestand what is where

-not just access or broading access think about kinds of data used to influence
decision making.
*thus we have to look how data is collected and how they process it

Purpose:
-also provides a science based framework for organizing workflows and integration
for better decision making

Components of GIS:
*Hardware: Perform computing tasks necessary for analysis.
*Software: Organizes and manages data
*Procedures: mechanism that ensure GI meets its purpose
*People: the analysts and users
*Network: sharing and real-time processing
*Data: Main input required to display spatial info
-Raster: pixel based
-Vector: point, line, and polygon based

We are the one who decides the map or modify the report depending on the
audience/stakeholders
