POST OP

- Place the patient in semi-Fowler’s position to facilitate drainage of bile.

- Monitor vital signs every 4 hours.

- Monitor intake and output.

- Administer IV fluids.

- Instruct DAT (diet as tolerated) with SAP (Strict Aspiration Precaution) once fully awake

- Encourage patient to take deep breaths and cough every hour to expand the lungs fully and to prevent
atelectasis.

- Administer analgesic agents to relieved the pain and help the patient turn, cough, breath deeply and
ambulate as indicated.

POST-OPERATIVE DRUGS:

Oral: Parenteral:

- Cefuroxime Ketorolac

- Celecoxib Nubain

Metoclopramide

- Monitor incision site for indications of infections.

- Perform wound care to promote wound healing to keep the skin around the incision clean and provide
a barrier to protect patient’s skin from excoriation.
