worth (SALNs) of people in government

proposed legislation. Just this: “Such use

thereon.”

But it looks like the Office of the
Ombudsman has forgotten its princi-
pal duty: the protection of citizens
against injustice committed by public
officials. In this instance, it appears
bent on not only keeping government
officials’ wealth under wraps, but
also on prohibiting remarks that
would otherwise add to public en-
lightenment. Martires’ draft bill pro-
poses a see-no-evil stance as though

tango dancer who gets entangled
with an Argentinian (Marcelo
Melingo). I had to learn tango,
which is so different from all the
dances I know. It makes me feel
so sexy because it’s such a sen-
sual dance. After filming in
landmark spots here, we will al-
so shoot some scenes in Manila.
Is the dialogue in your movie in
Spanish?
I’ll have a few lines in Spanish,
but the lines in the movie are
mostly in English.
What do you think of tango?
Here, there’s no choreography.
You wait for your partner to lead
you. You have to have that con-
nection so that you’ll move as
one.
How’s your rapport with your
leading man, Marcelo? What is
he like?
We warmed up to each other
pretty fast. He’s a really friend-
ly person. We were able to
spend time together and we
shared a lot of interesting con-
versations and laughs before
filming. He’s sweet. He sent me
a voice message when I was on
my way to Argentina. He asked
his English teacher to help him
with that. And he gave me a
gift the first time I met
him in person. I really appreciat-
ed that gesture.
What’s your impression of Argen-
tinian men?
Argentinian men and women
share a lot of similarities with us.
That’s why it didn’t take a lot for
me to adjust. Even if we speak a
different language, we manage to
connect and bond.
Have you met a potential boy-
friend there?
That’s not really in my head when
I work. I am in the zone and fo-
cus on the job at hand. If he
comes, he comes.
What are your realizations while
you are far away from home?
I love traveling. I make sure I re-

Pacquiao shares visions with CBCP

MANILA, Philippines — Presidential
aspirant Sen. Manny Pacquiao under-
scored the need to legislate a long-term
development roadmap that must be im-
plemented even with the changing of
administrations.
Talking over lunch with Catholic Bish-
ops Conference of the Philippines
(CBCP) Secretary-General Monsignor
Bernardo Pantin, Pacquiao said he
would push for a 50-year legislated de-
velopment masterplan or “MP” which
would depoliticize the government’s
infrastructure development roadmap.
“It will be legislated so that its imple-
mentation will be carried out regardless
of the agenda of the sitting administra-
tion,” Pacquiao said.
This development master plan will have
its own timeline and its funding will be
automatically appropriated in the Gen-
eral Appropriations Act (GAA).
Pacquiao has authored Senate Bill 2122
or the 30-Year National Infrastructure
Master Plan Act which seeks to create a
30-year infrastructure roadmap for the
Philippines.

“The Master Plan will serve as the
framework for the desirable loca-
tions, scopes, linkages, and tim-
ing of public and private invest-
ments in major infrastructure in
the country over the next three
decades. It will serve as a reliable
and predictable road map for the
construction industry, investors,
entrepreneurs, and associated sec-
tors in carrying out their long-term
business plans and decisions, ”
Pacquiao said on the explanatory
note of his SB 2122.
“The need for a long-term plan is
further underscored by the recent
successive destructive typhoons
and floods, and with the recent
devastation from the COVID pan-
demic, this calls for strategic infra-
structure projects based on an
overall long-range program to bet-
ter use limited resources for more
effective and lasting engineering
and related measures to mitigate
losses from these calamities, ” Pac-
quaio added.
Pacquiao also told Pantin that he
would still push for the re-
imposition of the death penalty but
would only cover plunder and high
-level drug offenses like drug traf-
ficking and drug manufactur-

The CBCP is opposed to the death
penalty.

enforcement, prosecution,
and judiciary.

ang maparusahan ng death pe-
natly. We should fix the three
pillars of our justice system so
that we will only punish those
who are really guilty,”
Pacquiao said.
He also raised the need to en-
sure the safety and security of
the members of the judiciary
as he expressed alarm over the
increasing cases of assassina-
tions against members of the
legal profession.
“The members of our judici-
ary must be free from fear so
that they can administer jus-
tice swiftly and fairly, ”
Pacquiao said.
After lunch, Pacquiao inspect-
ed his campaign headquarters
in Makati where he also met
with his key political leaders.

when COVID-19 travel re-
striction lifts, official says
WASHINGTON — The Unit-
ed States is preparing for long
lines and delays on Monday
when restrictions are lifted on
non-U.S. citizen international
travelers who are fully vac-
cinated against the corona-
virus, a senior official told
Reuters on Friday.
President Joe Biden’s admin-
istration “expects pent-up de-
mand for travel, which means
longer than normal wait times
for travelers,” the official said.
The government was boosting
staffing to pre-pandemic levels
but “long lines are expected in
the initial days.”
The United States on Monday
is lifting travel restrictions for
fully vaccinated air travelers
from 33 countries and at its
land borders with Mexico and
Canada, ending the historic en-

senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and former
president Corazon Aquino, first entered politics as
congressional representative of the 2nd District of

Aquino Legacy
Aquino remained a largely popular leader for the most part of his
presidency – until the Mamasapano incident on January 25,
2015, where 44 elite cops were killed in an operation that tar-

Zulkifli Abdhir, better known as "Marwan." Despite this, his
final public grade was "very good," according to pollster Social
Weather Stations.
One criticism of Aquino was that he lacked "empathy" – which was
observed as glaring in the aftermath of Mamasapano, which further
stoked public anger – but he had said that he would rather take action
and solve problems, behind the scenes, than do stunts like forcing tears
in public .
In his exit interview with Rappler CEO Maria Ressa on June 7, 2016,
Aquino said: “I hope I presented the best face of the Philippines: our
causes are legitimate, and we’re a worthwhile partner. We really are
sincere when we say that when we look at you, we want growth, not
on a one-sided basis, but on a multi-dimensional basis for all parties
