CAE Projects:
1. Airbag Deployment using LS Dyna
 Flat panel meshing is carried out using 2D element (ELFORM 09)
according to the drawings given considering effective stitch lines.

 Flat mesh is checked for all FE checks.

 Then these panels are sewed (Node merging) as per the drawing keeping
element Normals outwards, and checked for any free edges and normals.
 Then this sewed bag is kept in its environment (housing assembly).
 Generally the housing assembly used will be meshed with 2D elements
(ELFORM 16 or 2).
 Next material for airbag and other parts are assigned.
 Material orientation is assigned in mat 34 for fabric as it is orthogonal
material.
 Mat 20 (rigid) is used for housing assembly parts
 Housing assembly consists of Inflator, Retainer, Housing and Cover.
 Contact definition (Self and Airbag to Tool), Boundary conditions (SPC),
loading conditions (pressure) and required control cards will be defined.
 This is generally done to check the volume and shape of cushion.

2. Airbag Folding using Pam crash.

 Here the cushion is built as per drawings provided and checked for all
FE checks.
 Then the Bag is folded according to folding Instructions given using Pam
crash.
 Finally the folded cushion is checked for intersections and fixed if any
 We also check for penetration if specifically told us to do, generally we
don’t check for penetrations in cushion.
 This folded cushion is used for Simulations like Cover opening, Correlation
and Parts integrity studies.
