THE GLOBALIZATION PHENOMENON

           Global or globalization, a term usually encounters now a days.


All countries are engaged in    because of this we need to understand exactly what it is ,
most importantly how it impacts communication.

 What is Globalization?

A. Globalization is the process  by which people ang goods move easily across   
boarders. It is an economic concept that includes the integration of markets , trade 
and investments with few barriers to slow the flow of products and services
between nations.

B. Globalization also has brought lots of benefits to many people not necessarily  
everyone.

C.  To help explain the economic side of globalization , lets take a look at Starbucks.
C.   In 1971 the first Starbucks outlet opened in the city of Seattle. Now it has
reached 15,000 stores in 50 countries.
C.   The company was purchasing 247 million kilograms of unroasted coffee from 29
countries. These stores and purchases  provide jobs and income for hundreds and
thousands of people around the world.
C.  In 2012, a disaster struck, Starbucks made headlines after  Reuters made
investigation showed that the chain hadn’t paid much tax to the UK government
despite having thousands of coffee shops in the country and earning millions of
pounds in profit.

How Did Globalization Happen?

G.  Globalization as been around for centuries.


G.  Silk Road is one example  , a trade spread rapidly between China and Europe.

What Drives It?

I.  Globalization spread enormously over the last half- century, thanks to


technology.
I.  Internet has revolutionized communication and connectivity.
I.  Inventions and improvements  of transport have allowed us to move around the
globe.

What’s good About This?


L.  Globalization led  millions of people being lifted out of poverty.
L.   Company like Starbucks provides livelihood ad benefits to the community.
L.   Globalization has not only allowed nations to trade but also to cooperate each 
      other.

What’s Bad About It?

O. While some areas  flourished others floundered.


O. Computers improved our lives but cyber criminals steal  millions of pounds a
year. Global wealth skyrocketed and has global warming.
O.   Although many people were lifted out of poverty, however not everybody has
benefited.
O.   Globalization somehow helps create more wealth to developing countries , it is
not helping to close the gap between the richest  and the poorest nations.
O.  Globalization could lead to unparalleled prosperity and peace.
