1. Derive Bemnoulli’s equation from Navier Stokes equations. (7 marks)
2. Derive equation and plot pressure distribution of inviscid flow on the surface of a circular
cylinder (analogous to rectilinear flow plus Rankine oval) also find net force acting on the
cylinder. (7 marks)
3. A 4-m long curved gate (radius = 3 m) is located in the side of a reservoir containing water as
shown in Figure 1. Determine vertical, lateral and resultant of the force of the water on the
curved gate. Will this force pass through point A? Explain. (7 marks)

4. For the velocity field V = 2xi + 4yj + ztk . Find the (i total acceleration, (ii) the angular
velocity about the z-axis, (3)vorticity vector, (4) whether flow is compressible and (5) determine
the path of a particle at point (2, 3, 4) at t= 2. (7 marks)
5. A sluice gate across a channel of width 6 is shown in partially closed positions in Figs, 2a and
2b. Determine the anchoring forces required to hold the gate in place for both the conditions? (7
