Shah? Abstract IRS LISS-IIl& LISS-IV satellite images have been used for preparing thematic layers of various geoenvironmental parameters in order to assess the anthropogenic activity of stone quarrying and consequent obliteration of landscape and landuse changes in Mahoba district of Bundelkhand region of U.P. (India). Granite quarrying and stone mills in the eastern, central and southern part of Mahoba district are causing major environmental hazard as this anthropogenic activity has transformed many pockets of fertile land of this area into sites for disposal of waste dust. There is a harsh need for understanding, preserving, ameliorating and \g natural environment around granite quarries of Kabrai and Ganj area of Mahoba district. As a first step forward in this direction, a major tree plantation drive should be initiated along Mahoba-Kabrai route and in the areas of Kabrai and Ganj and in the southern part around Akona, Sijahari, Bhandra, Digarria and Siyawan areas of Mahoba district. Restricted stone quarrying should be taken up and agricultural fields should not be used for dumping the waste dust. Stone mills should not be allowed on agricultural land and new lease should not be given for quarrying particularly in Kabrai and Ganj area, otherwise this may also have adverse impact on the human health of local population. Regular health checkup camps should be organized in Kabrai, Ganj, Kabipahari and Thana areas in order to assess the impact of stone quarrying on the health of local populace. Further, the various lakes, ponds and reservoirs and natural drainages supplying water to them should be conserved in this water deficit region. ©2014 GSS Journals. All rights reserved.
