It consists of three horizontal bands of equal size, the top being saffron, the middle, white and the bottom is green. The saffron stands for courage and sacrifice, the white stands for truth and purity while the green represents faith, fertility and growth. In the middle of the white band is a navy wheel with 24 spokes. © 123 Homeschool 4 Me The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located on the bank of the Yamuna River in the city of Agra. With construction starting in 1632, it took about 20 years to build. It was commissioned by the Emperor of the Mughal people, Shah Jahan, in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is made of white marble that was inlaid with many semi-precious stones such as jade, crystal, amethyst and turquoise. © 123 Hemeschool 4 Me The Qutub Minar is a 5 storey minaret, the tallest brick minaret in the world. Located in the outskirts of Delhi in the Qutb Complex, it is surrounded by several great historical monuments. The Qutub Minar was damaged by lightning and earthquakes in the [4th and I5t centuries, though the tower has been rebuilt and repaired since. The India Gate, originally called the All India War memorial, is a monumental sandstone arch located in New Delhi. It stands as a memorial to the tens of thousands of soldiers of the British Indian Army who died during World War I. The design is similar to its French counterpart war memorial, the Arc-de-Triomphe. Traditionally, dancing has been an important part of religion and culture in India. Dancing forms in the north of India vary greatly from the ones in the southern part of India. The Bharata Natyam is an Indian classical story-dance who origins are recorded in Tamil literary texts as far back as the 6" century B.C. © 123 Homeschool 4 Me The Elephant Festival is an annual event that is held yearly in Jaipur. It begins with a grand parade of elephants that have been colorfully decorated on their backs, trunks and tusks. These elephants are also adorned with lots of jewelry including anklets, rings, head plates and ear danglers. The cows are used for dairy products, tilling fields, and their dung is used as a source for fuel and a fertilizer. Therefore, cows are thought to be sacred. They usually have a complex combination of herbs and spices, the main ones include coriander, cumin and turmeric. These dishes may also contain fish, poultry or shellfish, either alone or with some vegetables.
