Discussion 1: This discussion is meant for you to share something fun and interesting.

APOD  The grade is not something you should worry about too much.
The discussion leaders will be grading very liberally according to the APOD rubric.

Here is the procedure:

NASA has for years and years put up the Astronomy Picture of the Day.
There are literally thousands of pictures and videos to look at.
Find one that catches you eye for this discussion.
Perhaps start by looking at the pictures from your birth date, the date of your favorite holiday, or similar....
Here is the link to the website.

1) Go to the course materials section on my courses and locate the folder "APOD Rubric and Samples".
In that folder you will find the rubric and a few samples from last year.
2) Between now and the deadline, pick your own APOD , research it and write a brief paper.
There are no official limits or minimums on this paper, but it should be similar the examples.
Paper submission deadline = Friday, December 4th.
This gives you over 3 weeks to complete and submit the paper.
3) To share your paper, go to the discussion section on my courses and choose discussion 1.
You need to create a thread to post your paper.
When you post your paper, include a brief description of your choice.
For example, if you choose to write about colliding galaxies, say so.
Or if you APOD is about a Solar eclipse, say so.
This will help others when choosing to respond to other papers (see next item)
4) After the paper submission deadline, you will then be asked to discuss with others by
responding to at least 2 papers from your classmates.
The rubric has all the details for this....
The deadline to respond to at least 2 others will be Friday December 10 th.
