• 1380, Arab missionary Mudum landed in Sulu and laid the foundation of
Islam in the Philippines

• 1390, Rajah Baginda, prince of Menankabaw, Sumatra, invaded Sulu and


overcame native opposition with fire arms

• 1450, Abu Bakr, Muslim leader from Palembang, Sumatra, reached Sulu,
and married the daughter of Rajah Baginda. Founded the Sultanate of
Jolo, with himself as a sultan

• 1475, Sharif Kubungusan, Muslim leader of Johore, landed in Cotabato.
