See "Error List" of Babylog 8000 for detailed descriptions of the errors.
Any deviations of the normal operation of the processor 68000 due to errors or error conditions e.g.
bus errors, RESET, address error and interrupts result in the processor carrying out an exception
condition and loads a vector table with a hexadecimal number. This vector number not only informs
the processor that an error or exception has arisen but, in addition to this, also tells it how to react.
This vector is stored with other processor data and can be read out and cleared in the
Babylog 8000.
Note: The vectors with processor data are principally provided to assist in the development
department and electronic workshop.
Reading out the operating hours counter with the possibility of setting. Before renewing the Time-
Keeper RAM on the PCB CPU (every 4 years) this value is to be read out and after renewal to be re-
entered in the Babylog 8000.
• U1 Voltage from the first half of the 02 sensor, read out from master through the PCB I/O and
PCB 02 amplifier.
• U2 Voltage from the second half of the 02 sensor, read out from the PCB Monitor through the
PCB 02 amplifier.
Note: The 02 concentration at the sensor is undefined and matches the 0 2 setting before the device
was last switched off. Specification of set values through the pneumatics menu.
Note: The storage battery remains loaded for 60 seconds after the key "BaTest" (battery test) is
pressed. Desired value for charged battery storage unloaded: U ≥ 9.2 V. When loaded the voltage
only sinks by 0.1 V to 0.2 V for a charged storage battery.
In the LED display test all LEDs apart from the alarm LEDs are driven one after another and then
simultaneously.
Note: All devices in the USA, Canada and Japan require the option jumper X8/0 (limitation to 150
bpm) independent from the installed software version!
All jumpers are located on the Front Controller PCB (devices with LCD) or Front PCB (devices with
ELD).

• Potentiometer values: For a detailed test instruction refer to "Preventive Maintenance" (Test
Certificate).
Voltage from the second half of the 02 sensor, read from the Monitoring PCB through the 02 amplifier
PCB. The display value is converted to the sensor voltage.
Note:
The 02 concentration at the sensor is undefined and is equivalent to the 02 setting before the device
was last switched off. Presetting of defined values via the pneumatics menu.
For a detailed test instruction of the airway pressure measurement refer to "Preventive
Maintenance" (Test Certificate).
If the voltage exists after the safety relays K1 and K2 on the Pneumatics drive PCB the relay
contacts are closed.
Test: The relays are open-circuited if the pressure is greater than -5 mbar produced at the
inspiratory pressure sensor.
The temperature sensor is fixed on the PC board. For values lower -20 °C or higher +100 °C the
measurement fails.
Babylog is in the service mode, press softkeys "Electronics", "PC Boards" and then "8 PCB Front
controller".
Desired values potentiometer voltages: For a detailed test instruction refer to "Preventive
Maintenance" (Test Certificate).
The 12 bit D/A-converters provided for adjustment of the bridges can be driven together. This is a
manual adjustment and test of the measurement section.
The adjustment can also be carried out automatically as with the operating mode but then no
desired valued is issued for the A/D-converters.
Connect flow sensor and sensor cable so that they are ready for operation.
Enter service mode, press softkeys "Electronics", "PC Boards" and then "7 PCB Flow".
Set units of the measured values to decimal values by pressing the key "Cal. Config." (SW 5) or
"Monitoring" (SW 2, 3 or 4).

"Monitoring" (SW 2, 3 or 4).
The sensor voltages sensor 1 and sensor 2 must be able to be set to U = 4.37 ±0.1 V (equivalent
to 1793 dec) with softkeys " ⇓ " and " ⇑ " for adjusting the desired values.
Possible error 3:
The Voltage does not increase although the resistance value of the sensor is within the
tolerance range:
Test: Create a short circuit at the sensor socket at the cable between the contacts opposite
each other and at the socket on the device between contacts 1 and 2 (sensor 1) and 3 and 4
(sensor 2) (pin 1 upper right, counter direction anti-clockwise).
The voltage must be > 7 V each.
Resistance potentiometer wire in the flow sensor is outside the permissible tolerance
or the measurement channel is defective.
Enter service mode, press softkeys "Electronics", "PC Boards" and then "9 PCB I/O".
Set units of the measured values to volts pressing the key "Cal. Config." (SW 5) or "Monitoring"
(SW 2, 3 or 4).

device was last switched off. Presetting of the set values occurs via the pneumatics menu.
Set units of the measured values can be changed by pressing the key "Cal. Config." (SW 5) or
"Monitoring" (SW 2, 3 or 4).
Measure current values of the airway pressure sensors. The output value (units: decimal,
hexadecimal or volts) is equivalent to the input voltage of the PCB.
Whereas, an output value in standardized units (e.g. mbar, cmH20) represents the voltage at the
sensor.
For a detailed test instruction of the airway measurement refer to "Periodic Manufacturer's Service"
(Test Certificate).
Set units of the measured values can be changed by pressing the key "Cal. Config." (SW 5) or
"Monitoring" (SW 2, 3 or 4).
Measuring current values of the control pressure sensors. The output value (units: decimal,
hexadecimal or volts) is equivalent to the input voltage of the PC board. Whereas, an output value in
standardized units (e.g. bar, psi) represents the voltage at the sensor.
Set unit of the measured value can be changed by pressing the key "Cal. Config." (SW 5) or
"Monitoring" (SW 2, 3 or 4).

Relative pressure from the inspiratory pressure sensor, the first value (master measurement) read
out from the I/O PCB and the second measurement value (monitor measurement) read out from the
Monitoring PCB.
Absolute pressure measured behind the pressure reducer AIR at the valve block. The value
displayed in the DS Mode is the absolute pressure. The atmospheric pressure must be subtracted
from this absolute pressure. The result is the relative pressure.
Example:
Relative pressure = displayed value – atmospheric pressure = 2,76bar –1.00 bar = 1.76bar
Absolute pressure measured behind the pressure reducer O2 at the valve block. The value displayed
in the service mode is the absolute pressure. The atmospheric pressure must be subtracted from
this absolute pressure. The result is the relative pressure.
Example:
Relative pressure = displayed value – atmospheric pressure = 2,76bar –1.00 bar = 1.76bar
Connect O2 and Air pressure supply to Babylog 8000 (40 to 87 psi / 3 to 6 bar).
By pressing "V-call" or "02-cal" keys the flow and 02 measurement section can be calibrated. The
calibration in the service mode is identical to the calibration in the operating mode. For the 0 2
measurement section there is a two-point adjustment first with air (21 vol. %) and then with 02 (100
vol. %).
The potentiometer "Pinsp" must be at its maximum position for high pressure values. Otherwise, if
the Monitoring PCB measures inadmissibly high pressure values, the valve supply voltage will be
switched off. The airway pressure = Pinsp - 0.7 (Pinsp - Pexp) measured by the airway pressure
sensors and the desired value for the PEEP/PIP valve are displayed. The following tests can be
carried out with the Set. 1 menu in connection with the measuring menu:
Note: First check pressure regulators and input pressure sensors according to test step 6.2.1.
Test set-up:

Possible errors:
Relay K2 defective if no voltage drop is measured. The relay can be bridged by directly placing +5 V
from the testing plug X22/1 (right pin) on the Motherboard PCB (fold away front part) onto the
connection plug for the PEEP/PIP valve X8/1 (front pin). If this is also unsuccessful, there is a fault in
the peep source of current on the I/O PCB.
6.3.3 O2/Air switch over valve Y1.1, O2 calibration valve Y1.3 and O2
calibration valves Y3.1 and Y3.2 in the inspiratory block
Check by the 02 calibration and setting an inspiratory flow with the “Set. 2” menu with the respective
other type of gas. The test value is the sensor voltage of the 02 sensor in the measuring menu.

U1 and U2 = 9.2 mV up to 26.0 mV (make a note of displayed values)
When the Babylog 8000 is switched over from air to O2 calibration gas (via Y1.1) the voltage at the
sensor increases:
Switch off the flow control valve 1 of the 02 valve bank and switch on flow control valve 1 of the air
valve block (nominal value 15 L/min).
Note: When the calibration has been successfully completed then no fault exists.
Test set-up:
Connect O2 and Air pressure supply to Babylog 8000 (40 to 87 psi / 3 to 6 bar).
Connect reference pressure gauge (expected max. pressure 100 cmH2O) between inspiratory and
expiratory nozzle. Use short ventilation hoses or hoses 7x2.5, 200 mm between nozzles and Y
piece:
Babylog is in the service mode, press softkeys "Pneumatics" and then "Set. 1".
O2-conc. = 21
Insp. Flow = 5
Pinsp = 80
Overall failure
The system does not start after it is switched-on, thus the valves do not switch, continuous acoustic
alarm occurs and undefined display is present. The supply voltages are applied.
With this minimum equipment - thus without pneumatics components and front part - the system has
to start.
