6173.3 Babylog 8000 Service Mode March 2000 2/30

1 General description
The Service-Mode (DS-Mode) enables the device error messages, which have been saved, to be
read out; with the frequency of errors, the read out of all important measurement values and the
targeted drive of D/A-converters and valves.
Operation takes place by means of a menu control, as is the case for the operating mode. The
individual functions are called up by softkeys. The references, warnings and alarms of the operating
mode are also active in the DS mode and can be ignored with the "Ok", "Confirm" or "Reset/Check"
key. Ignored messages are displayed again after 30 seconds if the reason for this still exists.

1.1 Calling up the DS-Mode

Do not connect any patient circuit system to the insp. and exp. nozzles during call up of diagnosis
mode.

Connect compressed O2 and Air supply (3 to 6 bar / 40 to 87 psi).

Enter service diagnosis mode:

Babylog with SW 5.0:

Press "Confirm" or "OK" and "Alarm silence" keys and switch on device simultaneously. Keep
both keys pressed until first service menu is displayed.

Babylog with SW 2.n, 3.n or 4.n:

Press "Reset/Check" and "Alarm silence" keys and switch on device simultaneously. Keep keys
pressed until first service menu is displayed.

Operation in the service mode is to be confirmed in each case within 2 minutes using the key
"Alarm silence", otherwise restart with error message "823".

The errors "002", "800", "801", "804" "805" or "823" can be ignored in the service mode.

Note: The units of the measurement values can be partially changed in some menus with the
"Cal. Config." (SW 5) or "Monitoring" (SW 2, 3 or 4) key between:

• hexadecimal values
• decimal values
• voltages or standard units (e.g. voltage in mV/V or pressure in mbar/bar/psi/cmH2)

1.2 Left the Service-Mode

The DS-Mode can be left by switching off the Babylog 8000.

3 Service Mode "Error list"
With this function the device errors saved can be read out with the frequency of errors and the error
memory can be cleared. The status of the processor 68000 at the last processor error is saved with
its address in the vector, An error analysis, under some circumstances can be carried out using this
data following a system failure. An important and helpful component in troubleshooting is the error
list of the unit. There are two possible ways to read out error messages:

3.1 Error list

Babylog is in the service mode, press softkeys "Error list".

Use softkeys " ⇓ " and " ⇑ " to read out the error list.

See "Error List" of Babylog 8000 for detailed descriptions of the errors.

Use softkey "Clear" to erase the error list.

Press softkey "Return ".

3.2 Reading out vector

Babylog is in the service mode, press softkeys "Error list" and then "Vector".

Any deviations of the normal operation of the processor 68000 due to errors or error conditions e.g.
bus errors, RESET, address error and interrupts result in the processor carrying out an exception
condition and loads a vector table with a hexadecimal number. This vector number not only informs
the processor that an error or exception has arisen but, in addition to this, also tells it how to react.
This vector is stored with other processor data and can be read out and cleared in the
Babylog 8000.

Note: The vectors with processor data are principally provided to assist in the development
department and electronic workshop.

Use softkey "Clear" to erase the vector list.

Press softkey "Return " twice.

PCB 02 amplifier.

• U2 Voltage from the second half of the 02 sensor, read out from the PCB Monitor through the
PCB 02 amplifier.

Desired values at 21 Vol. % 02: U1 = U2 = 9.2 mV up to 26.0 mV

Desired values at 100 Vol. % 02: U1 = U2 = 43.6 mV up to 123.6 mV
Difference in voltage permitted: Smaller (U1 + U2) / 8 + 1 mV

Note: The 02 concentration at the sensor is undefined and matches the 0 2 setting before the device
was last switched off. Specification of set values through the pneumatics menu.

Load test by pressing softkey "O2Test":

On the PCB 02 amplifier, the master channel of the 02 sensor is pulled down as a result, the voltage
U1 is noticeable reduced (recognition two channel Dräger 02 sensor). If the voltage U2 is also
reduced, the sensor is not a Dräger sensor (not permissible).

7 Special characteristics of micro processor 68000

The Microprocessor 68000 is an asynchronous processor, which - in contrast to a synchronous
processor (e.g. 6802), requires an acknowledgement signal DTACK from the peripherals after each
external read or write access. By means of this DTACK-signal a slow -speed peripheral may be
interfaced to a fast-speed processor. If e.g. PCBs generating a direct DTACK-signal for the CPU
68000 (I/O PCB, Monitoring PCB, Front adapter PCB + Flow PCB) are missing or the DTACK
generation is defective, the processor system cannot operate.

Overall failure
The system does not start after it is switched-on, thus the valves do not switch, continuous acoustic
alarm occurs and undefined display is present. The supply voltages are applied.

The main failure cause is at the:

• CPU 68000 PCB
• I/O PCB
• Monitoring PCB
• Flow PCB
• Front adapter PCB

With this minimum equipment - thus without pneumatics components and front part - the system has
to start.
