TRAFFIC SIGNS

A device mounted or portable support whereby a message is conveyed by


means of words or symbol, officially erected or installed for the purpose of regulation,
warning or guiding traffic.
A. Regulatory Signs
Functions :
1. To impose legal restriction applicable at particular locations usually
enforceable in the absence of such signs.
2. To inform road users of certain laws and regulations the violation of which
constitution a misdemeanor.
Classification of Regulatory Signs:
a. Stop Sign
b. Speed Series
c. Movement Series
d. Parking Series
e. Pedestrian Series
f. Miscellaneous Series

B. Warning Signs
Functions :
1. To warn traffic of approach in hazardous condition either on or adjacent to
the road.
2. To seek causation on the part of the motorist of the approaching hazard.
3. To call the reduction of speed.

C. Guide Signs
Functions :
1. To guide motorist along established routes
2. To inform him of the proper routes
3. To help him along his way in the most simple and direct method.

3. Information Signs

PAVEMENT MARKINGS
All lines, patterns, words, colors or other gadgets except signs, set into the
surface or applied upon or attached to the pavement or curving at the object within or
adjacent to the roadway officially, place for the purpose of regulating, warning or guiding
traffic.
Functions:
1. To control and facilitate movement of vehicles and pedestrian traffic.
2. May be advantageous or disadvantageous to the vehicles or persons being
controlled.
