You can use the following steps to round a whole number to a particular position.

1. Mark/underline the position of the round-off digit. Examples: 4578 4578 2.

Note the digit to the immediate right of the round-off digit.

a. If it is less than 5, round down and replace all the digits to its right with zeros. Leave the
round-off digit unchanged.

b. If it is 5 or larger, round up, replace all the digits to its right with zeros. Increase the
round-off digit by 1.

3. You can also use number lines.
