End User License Agreement

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THIS END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT CARE-
FULLY. DOWNLOADING, INSTALLING OR USING A10 NETWORKS OR A10
NETWORKS PRODUCTS, OR SUPPLIED SOFTWARE CONSTITUTES ACCEP-
TANCE OF THIS AGREEMENT.

A10 NETWORKS IS WILLING TO LICENSE THE PRODUCT (AX 1000) TO YOU

ONLY UPON THE CONDITION THAT YOU ACCEPT ALL OF THE TERMS CON-
TAINED IN THIS LICENSE AGREEMENT. BY DOWNLOADING OR INSTALLING
THE SOFTWARE, OR USING THE EQUIPMENT THAT CONTAINS THIS SOFT-
WARE, YOU ARE BINDING YOURSELF AND THE BUSINESS ENTITY THAT YOU
REPRESENT (COLLECTIVELY, "CUSTOMER") TO THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU
DO NOT AGREE TO ALL OF THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, THEN A10
NETWORKS IS UNWILLING TO LICENSE THE SOFTWARE TO YOU AND DO
NOT DOWNLOAD, INSTALL OR USE THE PRODUCT.

The following terms of this End User License Agreement ("Agreement") govern Cus-
tomer's access and use of the Software, except to the extent there is a separate
signed agreement between Customer and A10 Networks governing Customer's use
of the Software

License. Conditioned upon compliance with the terms and conditions of this Agree-
ment, A10 Networks Inc. or its subsidiary licensing the Software instead of A10 Net-
works Inc. ("A10 Networks"), grants to Customer a nonexclusive and
nontransferable license to use for Customer's business purposes the Software and
the Documentation for which Customer has paid all required fees. "Documentation"
means written information (whether contained in user or technical manuals, training
materials, specifications or otherwise) specifically pertaining to the product or prod-
ucts and made available by A10 Networks in any manner (including on CD-Rom, or
on-line).

Unless otherwise expressly provided in the Documentation, Customer shall use the
Software solely as embedded in or for execution on A10 Networks equipment owned
or leased by Customer and used for Customer's business purposes.

General Limitations. This is a license, not a transfer of title, to the Software and
Documentation, and A10 Networks retains ownership of all copies of the Software
and Documentation. Customer acknowledges that the Software and Documentation
contain trade secrets of A10 Networks, its suppliers or licensors, including but not
limited to the specific internal design and structure of individual programs and asso-
ciated interface information. Accordingly, except as otherwise expressly provided
under this Agreement, Customer shall have no right, and Customer specifically
agrees not to:
a. transfer, assign or sublicense its license rights to any other
person or entity, or use the Software on unauthorized or sec-
ondhand A10 Networks equipment
b. make error corrections to or otherwise modify or adapt the
Software or create derivative works based upon the Software,
or permit third parties to do the same
c. reverse engineer or decompile, decrypt, disassemble or oth-
erwise reduce the Software to human readable form, except

to the extent otherwise expressly permitted under applicable

law notwithstanding this restriction
d. disclose, provide, or otherwise make available trade secrets
contained within the Software and Documentation in any form
to any third party without the prior written consent of A10 Net-
works. Customer shall implement reasonable security mea-
sures to protect such trade secrets.

Software, Upgrades and Additional Products or Copies. For purposes of this

Agreement, "Software" and “Products” shall include (and the terms and conditions of
this Agreement shall apply to) computer programs, including firmware and hard-
ware, as provided to Customer by A10 Networks or an authorized A10 Networks
reseller, and any upgrades, updates, bug fixes or modified versions thereto (collec-
tively, "Upgrades") or backup copies of the Software licensed or provided to Cus-
tomer by A10 Networks or an authorized A10 Networks reseller.

OTHER PROVISIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT:

a. CUSTOMER HAS NO LICENSE OR RIGHT TO USE ANY
ADDITIONAL COPIES OR UPGRADES UNLESS CUS-
TOMER, AT THE TIME OF ACQUIRING SUCH COPY OR
UPGRADE, ALREADY HOLDS A VALID LICENSE TO THE
ORIGINAL SOFTWARE AND HAS PAID THE APPLICABLE
FEE FOR THE UPGRADE OR ADDITIONAL COPIES
b. USE OF UPGRADES IS LIMITED TO A10 NETWORKS
EQUIPMENT FOR WHICH CUSTOMER IS THE ORIGINAL
END USER PURCHASER OR LEASEE OR WHO OTHER-
WISE HOLDS A VALID LICENSE TO USE THE SOFTWARE
WHICH IS BEING UPGRADED
c. THE MAKING AND USE OF ADDITIONAL COPIES IS LIM-
ITED TO NECESSARY BACKUP PURPOSES ONLY.

Term and Termination. This Agreement and the license granted herein shall remain
effective until terminated. All confidentiality obligations of Customer and all limita-
tions of liability and disclaimers and restrictions of warranty shall survive termination
of this Agreement

Export. Software and Documentation, including technical data, may be subject to

U.S. export control laws, including the U.S. Export Administration Act and its associ-
ated regulations, and may be subject to export or import regulations in other coun-
tries. Customer agrees to comply strictly with all such regulations and acknowledges
that it has the responsibility to obtain licenses to export, re-export, or import Soft-
ware and Documentation.

Trademarks. A10 Networks, the A10 logo, ACOS, aFleX, aFlow, aGalaxy, aVCS,
aXAPI, IDaccess, IDsentrie, IP-to-ID, SoftAX, Virtual Chassis, and VirtualN are
trademarks or registered trademarks of A10 Networks, Inc. All other trademarks are
property of their respective owners.

Disclaimer of Liabilities. REGARDLESS OF ANY REMEDY SET FORTH FAILS

OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OR OTHERWISE, IN NO EVENT WILL A10 NET-
WORKS OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOST REVENUE, PROFIT,
OR LOST OR DAMAGED DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF CAPITAL,
OR FOR SPECIAL, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR PUNITIVE
DAMAGES HOWEVER CAUSED AND REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIA-
BILITY OR WHETHER ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE
PRODUCT OR OTHERWISE AND EVEN IF A10 NETWORKS OR ITS SUPPLIERS
OR LICENSORS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAM-
AGES.

In no event shall A10 Networks’ or its suppliers' or licensors' liability to Customer,

whether in contract, (including negligence), breach of warranty, or otherwise, exceed
the price paid by Customer for the Software that gave rise to the claim or if the Soft-
ware is part of another Product, the price paid for such other Product.

Customer agrees that the limitations of liability and disclaimers set forth herein will
apply regardless of whetherCustomer has accepted the Software or any other prod-
uct or service delivered by A10 Networks. Customer acknowledges and agrees that
A10 Networks has set its prices and entered into this Agreement in reliance upon the
disclaimers of warranty and the limitations of liability set forth herein, that the same
reflect an allocation of risk between the parties (including the risk that a contract
remedy may fail of its essential purpose and cause consequential loss), and that the
same form an essential basis of the bargain between the parties.

The Warranty and the End User License shall be governed by and construed in
accordance with the laws of the State of California, without reference to or applica-
tion of choice of law rules or principles. If any portion hereof is found to be void or
unenforceable, the remaining provisions of the Agreement shall remain in full force
and effect. This Agreement constitutes the entire and sole agreement between the
parties with respect to the license of the use of A10 Networks Products unless other-
wise supersedes by a written signed agreement.

This guide describes how to physically install the AX 1000 / AX 1000-11

and configure its MGMT (management) interface for network access to the
Command-Line Interface (CLI).

Note: This guide applies only to models AX 1000 and AX 1000-11.

Inspection
Inspect the box carefully before opening it. If the box is damaged, contact
the shipper for instructions on filing a claim. Opening a damaged box before
inspection by the shipper will void any potential shipping claims.

Caution: Do not attempt to install or operate damaged equipment. As with any

electrical equipment, personal injury or damage to other equipment
can result from commissioning damaged electrical equipment.

Regulations
Follow all applicable regulations for installation of electrical equipment.

Unpacking
Carefully unpack your AX device and included items from the box.

Check the Contents

Confirm that the following items are included with the AX 1000:
• Cables: one AC power, two Cat-5E Ethernet, one Serial to RJ-45 console
• Hardware: rack-mount kit (2 front brackets and bracket screws)
• Product documentation, CD (User Manuals, Release Notes, and so on)

Other Requirements
Other equipment needed for installation:
• Notebook or workstation PC (Windows, Linux, or Mac)
– Must have compatible Ethernet connectivity
• Web browser (IE 6.0-8.0 for Windows, Firefox 2.x-3.x for Windows or
Linux, Safari 3.0 for Mac)
• Terminal Emulation Software (PuTTy, HyperTerminal, or similar)

Installation

Rack Mounting
1. Attach the front mounting bracket to the side of the AX device with the
supplied screws, as shown in Figure 1. Repeat on the other side before
continuing to the next step.

Note: Rack screws are not included in the bracket kit.

2. Attach the AX device to the front of the rack as shown in Figure 2.

Make sure to fasten the brackets.

Caution: Disconnect AC power supply cord before servicing.

Tighten the rack screws to secure the equipment to the rack after
servicing.

3. Check all screws to verify that they are snug.

Interface Connections
The AX 1000 and AX 1000-11 provide the following interfaces:
• Ethernet data interfaces – 6 1-Gigabit copper interfaces and
2 1-Gigabit fiber interfaces
• Management interfaces – 1 serial console interface (Console) and
1 Ethernet interface (MGMT)

1. Connect the serial cable to the serial console interface.

2. Connect Ethernet cables to the data interfaces you plan to use.

3. Optionally, connect an Ethernet cable to the MGMT interface.

Power-on
The AX 1000 automatically boots when the power plug is connected to an
electrical outlet. If the unit does not boot automatically, it can be manually
booted by quickly flipping the power switch.

Note: Power OFF – To perform a graceful shutdown, use the shutdown com-
mand in the CLI. You will be prompted to save your configuration infor-
mation before the AX 1000 powers down.

Force Power OFF – If the system stops working and requires a forced
shutdown, press and hold the power switch in the "1" position for four
seconds. Keep in mind that this forced shutdown will cause a loss of con-
figuration information that has not be manually saved.

Initial Configuration
The AX device can be initially configured using the CLI, accessed through
the console connection.

To display a list of commands for a level of the CLI, enter a question mark
( ? ) and press Enter. You can display the list separately for each level.

For syntax help, enter a command or keyword followed by a “space”, then

enter ? then press Enter. This works for commands with sub-commands
also.

Note: If you are planning to configure the new AX device by loading the config-
uration from another AX device:
1. On the configured AX device, use the copy CLI command to save the
startup-config to a remote server.
2. On the new AX device, copy the configured AX device’s startup-config
from the remote server onto the new AX device.
3. Reboot the new AX device.
4. Modify parameters as needed (such as IP addresses).

Connection via Console (Serial Port)

1. Using the included serial cable, connect the AX device to a computer
with terminal emulation software.

2. Power on the computer and the AX. Press the ON direction of the lower
rocker switch.

3. Set the terminal emulation software for 9600 baud and 8-N-1 (8 bits -
no parity - 1 stop bit). Once you are connected, the login prompt will
display on the terminal.

Login via CLI

1. Log into the AX device with the default username admin and the default
password a10.
login as: admin
Welcome to AX
Using keyboard-interactive authentication.
Password:***
[type ? for help]

2. Enable the Privileged EXEC level by typing enable and pressing the
Enter key. There is no default password to enter Privileged EXEC mode
on new systems.

3. Enable the configuration mode by typing config and pressing Enter.

4. It is strongly suggested that a Privileged EXEC enable password be set
up as follows:
AX(config)#enable-password newpassword
AX(config)#

How to Configure the MGMT Interface

Note: It is recommended to keep the management interface and the data inter-
faces in separate networks. Otherwise, some operations such as pinging
may have unexpected results.
1. In the factory default configuration, the management interface has IP
address 172.31.31.31/24.

2. You can use either a console connection or use another PC with an IP

address in the same subnet (for example, 172.31.31.1/24), and connect
the PC to the MGMT interface.

3. Configure the management interface IP address and default gateway.

- Note: The MGMT interface is an out-of-band interface; therefore, it
should not be on the same subnet as any of the data interfaces.
- In the example below, the IP address for the MGMT interface is
192.168.2.228. None of the data interfaces should have an IP address
of 192.168.2.x.
AX(config)#interface management
AX(config-if:mgmt)#ip address 192.168.2.228 /24
AX(config-if:mgmt)#ip default-gateway 192.168.2.1

4. Verify the interface IP address change:

AX(config-if:mgmt)#show interface management
GigabitEthernet 0 is up, line protocol is up.
Hardware is GigabitEthernet, Address is xxxx.yyyy.zzzz
Internet address is 192.168.2.228, Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
...

5. Optionally, configure the AX device to use the management interface as

the source interface for automated management traffic generated by the
AX device:
AX(config-if:mgmt)#ip control-apps-use-mgmt-port

Change the Admin Password

A10 Networks recommends that you change the admin password immedi-
ately for security.
AX(config)#admin admin password newpassword
AX(config)#

The AX device is now network accessible for configuration under the new
IP address and admin password.

Note: By default, Telnet access is disabled on all interfaces, including the man-
agement interface. SSH, HTTP, HTTPS, and SNMP access are enabled by
default on the management interface only, and disabled by default on all
data interfaces.

Save the Configuration Changes – write memory

Configuration changes made so far must be saved to the system memory to
take effect when the system reboots. Otherwise, a power interruption (for
example) could cause the system to be unavailable from the Web interface,
in which case the console configuration would need to be repeated. Saving
the configuration changes prevents this inconvenience. To write the current
configuration to system memory:
AX(config)#write mem
