ADVICE
If you modify or overwrite settings they cannot be
restored automaticany. Write down the actual
settings so you may restore them manually.

6.1 Measuringmode of the EC-M checkweigher

The checkweigher is equipped with the following measuring mode:

• Manual setting mode "MANUAL TIMES"

After entering the parameters the new product has to be adjusted.

The manual setting mode was formulated for dynarnic weighing
processes in the throughput method at medium up to highest
output. The manual setting enables an optimization of the
weight values in view of extemal interference.

page 76 ecmhd_magb.lwp /22.07.2008

6.3 Manual setting mode "TIMES MANUAL"

6.3.1 Description of themeasuring mode

There is a delay time before the start ofthe measurement determi-

nation after the product has passed the infeed light sensor.

HINT
Set the delay time so that all interferences by the
moving of the goods onto the weighingbelt are
eliminated.

The measuring time begins after passing ofthe delay time. During
the measuring time all measuring values are averaged. The measur-
ing values are equal to the average value of the different weight
values during the measuring time.

During the entire measuring proeess the procuet is transported on

the weighing band eontinuously. After completion of the measuring
time the measuring result is read out, the measuring eyde is
eompleted, the produet leaves the weighing bell.

6.3.2 Weighing cycle of the check weigher

There are four phases to a weighing cyc1e of a checkweigher:

<D Loading
During the Loading phase the product is transported from the
inputbelt to the weighing belt. During this process, the weight
value increases steadily.

(i) Settling
The settling phase begins after the product has been completely
transported onto the weighing belt.. During this settling phase the
signal stabilizes and the Loading disturbances die out.

® Measuring
After the Loading disturbances have mostly died out the measure-
ment signal evaluation starts. The product's weight value is deter-
mined automtically. The weigh value is displayed, as soon as the
measurement has been completed.

@) Discharging
The measurement is completed, the product is being transported
from the weighing belt onto the output belt. The weight value
decreased continuously.

The following figure shows a checkweigher's different weighing

cycle phases.

6.3.3 Weighing cycle parameters

The following description and calculation of the weighing cycle

different parameters are being used:

• Line parameter

• Ln [m] Length ofweighing belt

(measured around the drum edges)
• L p [m] Product length in direction of motion
(measured with safety allowance)
• A p [m] Product distance
(measured from leading edge to leading edge)
• Vb [mIsec] Line speed ofthe conveyor belts

The line parameter depend on the mechanical construction of the

weigher, the set transport speed and on the product dimensions to
be transported.

• Line dependent time parameter

• Tt [sec] Transport time on the weighing belt

• Ta [sec] Loading time of the product

The line dependent time parameter are calculated from the line
parameter. They are the basis for thesettings on the checkweigher.

• Measuring parameter

• ~,[sec] delay time for weight recording

• Tm [sec] pure measuring time for weight recording

The measuring parameter are used for the evaluation of the check-
weigher's weight signal. The measuring parameter can be set at the
control unit of the checkweigher in two ways; either graphically by
moving the respective times or numerically by entering the respec-
tive values, für details, see below.

ecmhd_magb.lwp / 22.07.2008 page 79

Settings

• Monitoring parameter

• TTIZ [sec]
Trigger delay time
(Monitoring ofproduct length, built-up control)
• Tpa=[sec] Product distance time
(Monitoring ofproduct distance)
• L Res [m] safety distance for product flow control

The monitoring parameter are used for controlling and monitoring

the necessary preconditions for a weighing cycle. The monitoring
parameter are determined by simple calculations and entered at the
checkweigher via the numeric key pad.

6.3.5 Computation formulas

The motion equation forms the basis for the checkweigher's proce-
dures (1):

B e1t speed = required time (1 )

By entering the fOrIDula characters the following equation is

achieved (1 a):

m] S[iU]
VB [ 'SeC = ~ (1a)

By modification of formula (1 a) the following result is achieved for

the transport time needed in dependence on the belt speed and the
distance covered:

s[m]

[ ] =~ (1b)

The distancecovered is calculated in dependance of the belt speed

and the required transport time as weIl from equation (1a):

Press the ESC key to leave the GRAPHICS menu.

6.3.7 Performing a product optimization

At high output rates of the checkweigher or at strong interferences

with a high filtering of the weight signal, the weight signal course
may not rise to a constant plateau. Due to the short transport time
of the product on the weighing belt the time for a complete settle-
ment of the weight signal is not sufficient. This is a so called static-
dynarnic offset, i. e. the weight values measured during the
throughput do not correspond with the statically determined
product weights.

The static-dynamic offset can be corrected in the measuring mode

TIMES MANUAL by the determination of an optimization.

For an optimization proceed as follows:

1.) Measure the product with the correct filter as described

above. Please ensure that the product parameter OPTIMIZA-
TIONis set to 0.000.

2.) Proceed to perform an ample series of measurements

with a product which corresponds to the specified weight.
This series of measurements is recorded with the statistics
function.

3.) The product parameter OPTIMIZATION is calculated from
