DEBATE: THE WORLD WOULD CHOOSE GANDHI OVER HITLER

A very warm and exuberant morning to the revered members of the jury,
august gathering of spectators, worthy opponents and my dear friends. Today
I, Manya Ahuja, stand right before you speaking for the motion that THE
WORLD WOULD CHOOSE GANDHI OVER HITLER.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi has rightly said “An eye for an eye makes the
whole world blind.”
Mahatma Gandhi emerged in the times when The Indian subcontinent was a
group of smaller kingdoms with kings, nobles, landlords and peasants where
notionally, none was thinking about the British rule being an issue.

He was the one who made people see a ray of hope that they had a leader.
Gandhi fought against the world’s most powerful empire of the century,
The british empire and left them in an absolute checkmate situation where
removing Gandhi and his principle of Non-violence would leave an agitated
India , a nightmare to the British land.
And then comes Adolf Hitler was responsible for the genocide of six million
Jews and devastation of his home country, Germany. He was responsible
for a heinous crime of triggering the World War II, the most appalling,
destructive and merciless conflicts in history.

Gandhi was the personification of kindness and humanity who not only
contributed to India's freedom struggle but also inspired people across the
world to raise voice against discrimination, but never be violent as he was a
preacher of non violence and believed that “In a gentle way, you can shake the
world”.
He demonstrated greater sense to reason of individual freedom, rights and
expression by human existence, a quality which Hitler sought to destroy, yet
he, desired for himself. What an injustice to humanity!!
The major contrast between the Gandhi and Hitler comes from their style of
demanding. Gandhi propagated the demanding of truth through peaceful
means. His fight was against colonialism, poverty, ignorance, evil practices,
discrimination, social inequality, dictatorship and so on and so forth. He did not
hate Britishers but hated their colonial rule as he himself said “Hate the sin,
not the sinner”.
The method of Adolf Hitler was totally contradictory to that of Gandhi. He
believed that he had a right to kill people. He could not accept people who
were different from him and had made imaginary enmity. Now if this becomes
the base of understanding in today’s society, will anyone be able to survive?
Absolutely not! Then why will people choose Hitler and his noxious principles?
Where Gandhiji believed in democracy, Hitler often lived in his own whims and
fancies, supporting dictatorship and authoritarian government. Hitler wanted
to be the lord and master of the universe and finally having nothing left in his
hand decided to commit suicide after ruthlessly blaming the Jews for all the
heinousness.
So in the end, I would like to conclude by saying that When we study the
consequences of violence, hatred and racism, our faith in goodness, truth and
peace increases. Gandhi proved that non-violence is not a virtue of cowards to
escape the duty and showed the world that one’s duty is divine.
… unlike some he did not do so for power and infact he did not take any position of
power after independence.

He has taken some wrong decisions in life and even supported the wrong man to power
but he wasnt god he had his limitations too and most of all he was a man with good
intent for the people of India in his heart.

he gave his whole life to peace and ironically died of violence.

Will Gandhian ideas solve all of world's problems? No. Nothing will. Each problem needs
its own customized solution. But, Gandhian principles can be utilized as a core block in a
different solutions.

Some of the other principles of Mahatma is also very relevant now:

1. Lower carbon signature & Sustainable development -

2. Distributed organizations - India's Panchayati raj is one such example
of this principle.
3. Do it yourself - Gandhi made his clothes by himself. His goal was to
impress upon people that no job is lowly. We can get on to this DIY
culture and start building some of the stuff we use.
The problem is that there are very few leaders of moral repute and patience who could
utilize the tools of the Satyagraha. This is where we need better leadership who can use
Gandhian tools. Gandhi was also a super intelligent politician who knew how to move
people. Most modern Gandhians don't have those abilities

>>Gandhi had enough influence to suggest abolition of the caste system.

No human had that power. Indians will not listen to anybody when it comes to
abolishing the caste system or religious practices. Even Emperor Ashoka, who ruled the
subcontinent for decades, could not remove the caste system and rather worked
alongside it. Gandhi thus worked towards removing the discriminatory aspects of the
caste system.

Mahatma Gandhi
He was a simple man with vast ideas, and he always gives a message to others
that "Be the change you wish to see in the world".
The main cause of worry today is intolerance and hatred leading to violence and it is here
the values of Gandhi need to be adhered to with more passion. He is relevant not yesterday
or today but forever!!

The concept of humanity versus racial purity is even portrayed

and left them in an absolute checkmate situation where removing Gandhi
and his principle of Non-violence would leave an agitated India , a
nightmare to the British land.
