Research Design- is the arrangement of conditions for collection and analysis of data in a

manner that aims to combine relevance to the research purpose with economy in procedure.

Decisions regarding what, where, when, how much, by what means concerning an inquiry or
a research study constitute a research design.

Parts of a Research Design:

1. Sampling design- Which deals with the methods of selecting items to be observed for the
study.

2. Observational design-It relates to the conditions under which the observations

are made

3. Statistical design-It is concerned with the questions of how many items are to be
observed and how the information and data gathered are to be analyzed.

4. Operational design-It states the techniques by which procedures specified in the

sampling, statistical and observational designs can be carried out.

IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH DESIGN

 It reduces inaccuracy.

 Helps to get maximum efficiency and reliability.

 Eliminates bias and marginal errors.

 Minimizes wastage of time.

 Helpful for collecting research materials.

 Gives an idea regarding the type of resources required in terms of money, manpower, time,
and efforts.

 Guides the research in the right direction.
