Lab Activity: Circle Lab

Lab Members:

Purpose: To get more comfortable with graphing techniques and getting information from
graphs.

Activity: You have been given a number of items, rulers, and a meter stick. Use all of the
materials/tools given (and only those tools) to make a graph that can determine/confirm the value
for ‘pi’

Note: You may not use a calculator during the lab until the instructor says it is okay. If you get
stuck, think about this: What can you measure?

Post-lab questions:

1) Which of your objects was the least circular? (support your response with data and
calculations)

2) What do you think were your most significant sources of error in this experiment (that
threw off your values for “π”)? Be Specific about how you think this error would
have affected your ‘π’ value.
