Cultural strategy is an area of practice that centers on artists, storytellers, media makers and

cultural influences as agents of social change. Cultural strategy speaks to our broadest vision and
highest expectations. In the field of social justice, this means building and maintaining a just,
inclusive and just society. In the long run, cultural strategies will open up, re -imagining and
rewriting a well -held narrative, changing the shared spaces and norms that shape culture.
Moreover, it has a role to play in short -term campaigns - helping to shape the opinions, beliefs
and behaviors that lead to victory in elections, legislation and policy.

In practice, cultural strategies take many forms, with practitioners specializing in different
aspects: strategic, tactical, short -term, long -term, changing societies or protecting and
preserving them. Like all strategic practices, it requires goal setting, change theory, audience
understanding, and a commitment to meaningful assessment and learning. Activities and tactics
include building and organizing creative networks; narrative design, discovery, and
development; story -based content creation such as digital productions and live events; and,
importantly, effective distribution and engagement to ensure impact through real -world contact
with audiences.
