1) The Guillotine was being used to sentence not only outlaws but innocent people who they thought

were thinking anti-revolutionary thoughts, which wasn’t fair as they had helped the revolution and now
they were being killed by the revolution they helped.

2) Robespierre had absolute power in the country and was using it to sentence people he didn’t like to
the guillotine, and this lead to suppression and he was eventually overthrown and sentenced to the
guillotine himself.

3) The public executions were held to instill fear and to stop anyone from staging a coup, however it did
the exact opposite. The people feared the guillotine, and their fear turned into anger and soon they
called for a revolution to overthrow Robespierre.
