In March 1851, Singer was given his first
American patent.
In March 1873, Helen Blanchard patented the

machines began to be wide in usage.
In March 1845, Elias Howes receives his first
patent by having a sewing machine which
utilized the lockstitch design.
In March 1857, James Gibbs created the
first chain-stitch single-thread sewing
machine.
In March 1877, Merrow invented the very first
sewing machine able to do a crochet stitch.
