Question: The science of photonics includes investigation of the absorption, emission,

transmission and reflection of light. By using your own words, describe all those process.

Answer:
Photon absorption by an atomic electron occurs during the photoelectric effect process, in which the
photon loses all of its energy to an atomic electron, which is then freed from the atom.

Photonics is the physical study and application of producing, detecting, and manipulating light
(photons) via emission, transmission, modulation, signal processing, switching, amplification, and
sensing.
