The ear is divided into three parts:

-The outer ear:

It is formed by the pinna and the ear canal.

It catches sound waves.

The pinna determines the direction of the sound.

-The middle ear:

It is formed by the tympanic membrane (eardrum) and the ossicles (malleus, incus and stapes).

The eardrum transfers the energy of the sound.

The ossicles amplify the force of sound and create waves in the fluid of the inner ear.

-The inner ear:

It is formed by the cochlea.

With the hair cells inside the cochlea, the sound is transmitted through an electrical impulse
into the auditory nerve, and then, to the brain.
