Questions / Applications
1 What are the major sources of error in this procedure?

We faced systematic and random error while completing the exercise. In terms of systematic error, the setup or design of the experiment
might generate error that can alter the outcome, and in terms of random error, the way we measure, there will always be uncertainty in
the results.

2 What would be the shapes of a curve of a graph of y versus t of the data in each experimental case?

Each experimental case's curve of y versus t data is a PARABOLA.

3 How would you determine the value of the car’s acceleration from a graph using only y and t values (i.e.,
not computing vi)?

To get the value of the car's acceleration from a graph using only y and t data, plot the graph first, then
determine the trend line, and last calculate the slope.

4 What is the physical significance of the slope of the graph for the case of the level air track?

The object's acceleration is represented by the slope of a velocity graph. As a result, the magnitude of the
slope at any given moment indicates the rate of acceleration.

5 What is the maximum possible value of the slope of a v versus t curve for a car released from rest on an air
track elevated at one end? Describe the experimental set up in this case.

When one end of an air track is raised, the component of the (weight) force mg causes acceleration, and a =
g sin θ. Through the pipe on the right, a blower provides air to the track. The vehicles or gliders fly on a tiny
cushion of air, reducing friction significantly. Photogates for automatic timing may be installed on an air track.
It can be proven that the car's instantaneous velocities can be calculatedfrom the experimental data of
the glider's observed displacements xi.
