Danelec Service Policy

The following points are the service policy commitments that Danelec Marine, without exception, requires a
certified technician who performs service on Danelec Marine products to understand, accept and carry out in
his/her daily work.

Consistently adhering to these service commitments ensures high quality and best practice throughout the
lifetime of the product to the benefit of vessel owners, Danelec Marine partners and Danelec Marine.

1. Qualifying for service / APT

Ensure that the basic Danelec Marine requirements for service partners are met:

1.1. The technician holds a valid Danelec Marine issued certificate for the specific product and model.
1.2. All required parts for Service / APT are available in stock.
1.3. Spare batteries are in good condition, stored correctly and have at least 4 years left before expiry
date is reached.

2. Prepare for Service / APT

Check the Danelec Marine Partner Site:

2.1. Software updates, Service notes, Manuals and Procedures.

2.2. Request the latest APT review report from the Danelec Marine Partner Site.
2.3. Identify issues in latest APT review report and prepare solutions to rectify issues.

3. Perform Service / APT

Ensure compliance with Danelec Marine service policy:

3.1. Always use the APT tool for installation and Annual Performance Test, and ensure data is uploaded
to Danelec Marine.
3.2. Only Danelec Marine may issue an IPT or APT certificate (CoC – Certificate of Compliance). No
technician or service partner may issue any form of Danelec Marine certificate.
3.3. Red flag any unresolved issues encountered on board during service or APT by contacting Danelec
Marine support.

On the following pages, each point is described in detail. We kindly ask you to read them carefully and in
case you are a certified technician follow this link in order to officially accept to commit to Danelec
Marine’s service policy and to carry it out in your daily work.

How to comply with Danelec service policy?

1. Qualifying for service / APT

1.1. Always check the expiration date of your Danelec Marine technical training certificate before
accepting a Danelec Marine service assignment. You should contact Danelec Marine well ahead of
your certificate’s expiration date in order to arrange for a re-certification. Danelec Marine offers
different options for re-certification including online training for experienced Danelec Marine certified
technicians. Information and training schedules can be found in the training area of the Danelec
Marine Partner site.

1.2. It is the responsibility of the service partner to always have the required spare parts in stock, and to
make sure new parts are ordered from Danelec Marine when necessary. The required spare parts
depend on whether the partner is a service partner or Certified Service Center. The minimum
required stock of spare parts for all partners are the following*:

 SWAP units for VDR/ECDIS systems

 Battery packs
 Battery charger
 Primary cooling fan for the DPU or PSU
 Secondary cooling fan for the DPU
 Beacon replacement kit
 Beacon tester
 Straps securing the release mechanism on the cradle
 Fully functioning service kit (test and trouble shooting kit)
 An indoor microphone
 An outdoor microphone
 EPIRB decoder and EPIRB programmer for float-free capsule
 Compact flash reader/writer

* For a complete list of required spare parts, including part numbers and prices, refer to the actual
price list on the Danelec Marine Partner site.

1.3. Ensure that routines exist to maintain the batteries in stock. Storage temperature should be kept
below 25°C to ensure minimum discharge during storage. The maximum storage time is 6 months
for Pb-Acid batteries and 12 months for NiCd and NiMH batteries without recharging. Batteries that
have less than 4 years left until the expiry date is reached must not be used. Batteries are shipped
fully charged from Danelec; however, the batteries should always be charged and the voltage
checked before bringing any batteries to a service attendance. Use the Danelec Marine Battery
Charger to charge the batteries. For Pb-Acid batteries the voltage should never be below 10.5V (on
each battery separately). For NiCd batteries the voltage should never be below 10V for the larger
battery, and 8V for the smaller battery. For NiMH batteries the voltage should never be below 8V. If
the voltage is lower than these limits, the batteries have been permanently damaged and cannot be
fully charged. Damaged batteries must not be used under any circumstances. Discard any defective
batteries and order new ones from Danelec Marine.

2. Prepare for Service / APT

2.1. Always check the Danelec Marine Partner Site for any updated software or new documentation
before attending a vessel. The newest software and APT tool must always be carried on board
when performing service or IPT/APT. Also, ensure that all new documentation (Newsletter, Service
information, Tech notes, etc.) has been thoroughly read and understood.

2.2. Before any APT is performed, the latest available APT review report must be obtained from Danelec
Marine. The latest APT information can be obtained on the Danelec Marine Partner Site in the APT
area. Request APT information.

2.3. Use the latest APT information to determine if any known issues have to be corrected during the
APT. All issues in the APT review report must be addressed and corrected. Prepare solutions for
these issues before attending the vessel. Contact Danelec Support prior to the APT if there are any
issues which you do not know how to correct.

3. Perform Service / APT

3.1. The latest version of the APT tool must always be used for IPT/APT. An IPT/APT performed without
the APT tool will not be accepted and no certificate can be issued. The manual checklist (or any
other VDR checklist from Classes etc.) may be handed out to the vessel’s crew, only if the
technician ensures that the IPT/APT data is uploaded to Danelec Marine as soon as a sufficient
Internet connection is available. In all cases, data should always be uploaded within 72 hours after
the IPT/APT has been performed. If for some reason data cannot be uploaded within this time
frame, Danelec Support must be informed immediately. Danelec Marine will perceive handing out
the checklist without uploading the IPT/APT data as an attempt to avoid compliance with relevant
IMO regulations.

3.2. Under no circumstances can a technician issue any form of IPT/APT certificate to the vessel (either
in the name of Danelec Marine or the partner company). Doing this is a serious matter which
Danelec Marine will take the strongest measures against. Whenever handing out any service
reports or similar documents to the vessel’s crew, it must be made clear that this is not a certificate
and that the certificate will be issued by Danelec Marine after reviewing the IPT/APT data (this also
applies to the manual checklist, see 3.1). The certificate issued by Danelec Marine will be sent to
the partner company (who performed the IPT/APT) who must then forward it to the vessel. The
certificate is issued as an electronic document. On the Danelec Partner site, the authenticity of the
certificate can be verified using the authenticity code on the certificate: Verify certificate.

3.3. If any issues are encountered during a service or IPT/APT job which could not be resolved on board
the vessel, it is very important that Danelec Marine is informed. This is referred to as a “Red Flag
Issue”. A Red Flag Issue should be submitted to Danelec Marine support as soon as possible.
Always attach the vessel’s IMO number, IPT/APT case ID (if applicable) and model. A detailed
description of the problem and other information/data that may be important must be included in the
messages. If possible always include a dump for support as well. Danelec Marine will follow up on
all Red Flag Issues in order to locate the source of the problem and improve parts, software or
support functions accordingly, if necessary.
