Setting Up the System.
Before you can install and adjust the system's component,
{ake @ minute to familiarize yourself with them, Your system
should include
2 Stereo Targeting® arrays
+ Acoustimass module (the larger black cabinet)
4 wires
The SE-5 system olfers many advantages not available from
a conventional speaker system, among them, remarkable
freedom of placement. Acoustimass speaker lechnology
allows you lo place the Acoustimass module almost any:
where, even under furniture. The compact Stereo Targeting
atrays can also be positioned in your listening roam wher
ever they create the best balance of higher frequency sound
Below are some guidelines for setting up your system.
A, Select the lncation where you intend to place the left and
right Sterea Targeting arrays. Note that wires fam
the arrays connect tathe Acoustimass madule, so you
should locate the Stereo Targeting arrays so that the
wires will reach the location you have chosen for the
module,
Note: While the wires provided are adequale for mast instal:
lations, you may increase the distance between the Stereo
Targeting? arrays and the Acoustimass module by splicing
in additional wire. If you do so, use similar gzuge (16 ar 18
gauge) or thicker wire, and make sure you maintain the car
rect phase ("4-"1o" +" and“~"to"—"), and pmperty con:
rect the wires
The Bose® Acoustimass® SE'5 system.8. Position the Stereo Targeling® arrays with your audio
‘or video system to sui your musical tasla and location
preferences. In average-sized listening raoms, the best
slereophonic effects result whan the left and right Stereo.
Targeting arrays are spaced 6 lo 12 feel apart (approxi
ally 1.8-3.6 m), However, you can still achieve excel
ntresuils wilh separation as great as 15 feet
eo: 45m)
Note: For video applications, separation val vary to allow
the Stereo Targeting” arrays to be located on each side of a TV
‘of monitor. For more information on video applications, see
Part O of this section,
C. The Acoustimass® module can be lacaled virtually any-
‘where in your listening room (Figure 1} in either a vertical
‘or horizontal position, Ils unique Acaustimass speaker
technology delivers roorr-filling bass from almost any.
‘where, Feel free to hide the Acoustimass module under a
bed or lable, or even behind a sola, Just remember nat to-
bblock the two round apenings in the end ol the unit. You
should allow at least 2 inches (approximately 5 cm) of
‘open space between these openings and the wall or
other surface,
Unlike conventional floorstanding or bookshell speakers,
‘you ran fine-lunethe bass response of your SE-5 system
‘vithaul compromising accurale stereo imaging. Just
‘change the location of the Acoustimass module within
‘your listening room. Far typical listening environments,
positioning the module along a wall 3to 5 feet (approxi:
mately 1 ta 1.5 meters}from a comer pruvides a normal
balance of frequencies from your SE-5 system, Moving
the module closer tothe walls andior corners of your
room will increase bass response, while maving il toward
the center of your room will decrease it. In most rooms, it
should be reasonably easy to choose a lacalion which is
convenient, yal prowides pleasing bass response.
@: Sterea Targeting arrays ol your SE-5 system are mag.
tically shielded for use with video systems, This allows
you to position the arrays close fo your T¥f or manitor
without adversely affecting the picture quality (as hap-
pens with conventions, nanshielded speakers). Refer
fo Figure 2
Note: The Acoustimass module itslt is not magnetically
shielded and should be placed atleast three feet avy from
YyoUr manitor to avoid interference.
