Renting an apartment for the first time is one of the defining rites of
passage that marks the transition from adolescence to young adulthood.
Many young people have a dream of what their first apartment will be like,
whether it is the boho click flat in a trendy neighborhood, the immaculate
penthouse the heart of downtown, or the ultimate party pad with a gang of
best friends for roommates. Unfortunately, it is often harder to find that
perfect apartment that it is to daydream about it.

Thesis Statement: Renting an apartment for the first time is one of the
defing rites of passage that marks the transition from adolescence to young
adulthood.

2. Young renters do not have credit ratings with banks, and they haven’t
proved that the are capable of handling responsibility. They throw parties,
make noise, and never stay in one place very long. Landlords often require
a reference from a former and a security deposit, if not the signature of a
parent or relative .

Main Idea: Young people are not able to handle the responsibility of
managing a bank account, therefore a deposit from a relative is needed for
the security of the account.

3. A student budget in most cases is fairly limited. Rent, bill and tuition must
be paid, on a part-time salary at best. Often after one weekend of
apartment hunting, the dream of the perfect apartment goes up in smoke.
The place advertised as “spacious studio” turns out to be a sort of
basement mausoleum with grime-covered slats for windows, more
appropriate as setting of a horror movie than a romantic year of indepence.
“One bedroom “means” walk in closet. A trend emerges- if the price is right
everything else is wrong.

Main idea: He emphasizes that the budget of the students is not feasible to
afford to buy an apartment in good condition, rather it is not feasible.

4. Students quickly wonder why they did want a roommate in the first place.
A certain amount of messiness can be expected from fist; time renters, but
some people take this to the extreme. No one wants to end up rooming
with the guy that starts a biology lab in the kitchen. Similar, students who
are serious about their studies do not want to live with a party girl or guy
who is out all night, every night.

Main Idea: The fact that some students do not prefer a roommate is shared
since they can be very messy and parting, which can effect the studies of
said student who wants to progress in their studies.
