INTRODUCTION
Shravasti district is a historical and Archaeological tourist place of Uttar Pradesh State in
Devipatan Division of India, which is situated on the border of district Shravasti and Balrampur
at revenue village Katra (Sahet-Mahet) in the Ikauna Tehsil of District Shravasti. Shravasti is
located on the west bank of Rapti (Achirawati) river. Shravasti is about 170 Km, North-East of
Lucknow. Shravasti was formed in May 1997 when Bahraich district was divided. Shravasti
shares its border with district Balrampur,Gonda and Bahraich.

Shravasti was a city of ancient and one of the six largest cities in India during
Gautama Buddha's lifetime. Shravasti rose to fame due to its association with Buddha
and Mahavira and became one of the eight holy places of Buddhist pilgrimage.
Buddha is said to have spent 24 rainy seasons besides performing the Twin Miracle of
emanating fire and water from his body here. Besides, Suhaildev Wildlife Sanctuary
provides the perfect nature trail options to tourists and pilgrims alike.
