Assignment #1:

1. What is a chemical reaction?

a process that involves rearrangement of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance, as
opposed to a change in physical form or a nuclear reaction.

2. How do we know if a chemical reaction has occurred?

Give at least 5 evidences of a chemical reaction.
 Bubbles are evidence that a chemical reaction took place because they give off light.
 A change in color is just one of several potential signs that a chemical reaction has
occurred.
 Change in temperature. Heat is released or absorbed during the reaction.
 Formation of a gas. Gas bubbles are released during the reaction.
 Formation of a solid. A solid settles out of a liquid solution. The solid is called a
precipitate.

3. What is the difference between chemical and physical changes?

Physical change is when the physical traits of a substance changes. Moreover, it does not make
any internal changes. Whereas, a chemical change is when the internal structure gets affected
by a substance and forms a new substance.

4. Give at least 5 examples of chemical reactions that you see at home and in your community.
