1. Give 2 or more examples of how you perceive Leyte Normal University to be

reinforcing gender roles and gender inequality.
 In my opinion, one example of gender inequality that I have observed in
Leyte Normal University is that members of LGBTQ’s and plus,
specifically, gays cannot wear make-up while females can.
 Another example is that, Lesbians in Leyte Normal University can have
their haircut just as what males can; on the other hand, gays cannot make
their hair as long as they want.
 I believe another example of gender role perceived in Leyte Normal
University is that we do not have male nurse/s where in fact, the role of a
nurse is not just for females.
 I believe there is also gender discrimination in the classroom. Without
realizing it, many teachers favor male students. This may come in the form
of asking boys more difficult questions or interrupting girl students while
they are speaking.

2. Suggest practical ways in addressing these situations based on your current

understanding of gender and that ensures the advancement of men and women.

Gender roles and gender inequality is still found in varying degrees in

most societies around the world. Just as racial stereotyping and prejudice
underlie racial inequality (Chapter 3, Racial and Ethnic Inequality), so do
stereotypes and false beliefs underlie gender inequality. One of the practical
ways to address these situations of gender roles and gender inequality based on
my understanding of gender is family upbringing. Family upbringing is the main
weapon to fight against gender discrimination. From our own family, we should
start the process of gender neutrality. We should treat all our family, may it be
blood-related or not, the same respect and dignity beyond earning education. I
believe that the world is made of only families, once a family is aware of this
sensitivity to gender, the world will automatically change.
