SET: Setting and the details associated with it not only depict a time and place, but also convey values
associated with that setting.

SET2.A: Identify and describe specific textual details that convey or reveal a setting.

SET2.B: Explain the function of setting in a narrative.

SET2.C: Describe the relationship between a character and a setting.

Task: Each group will be assigned a setting to analyze. Each group will create a Google Slides
presentation that includes 5 passages from the novel and an analysis of those passages. Analysis
should include a deep exploration of the function of the setting and Janie’s relationship with each
setting. Consider how Janie’s journey is impacted by each setting. Each of the three skills (SET2.A,
SET2.B, and SET2.C) should be explored and explained in the presentation.

Your group will present your findings to the class on Thursday, September 30 (b-day) / Monday,
October 4 (a-day)
