2.4. Chiller warning

This warning will appear if the temperature for the water for the external optics or the
laser is getting close to the upper or lower limit. Additionally this warning appears if the
water conductivity is getting close to the upper limit. Laser operation is not affected by
this message and it is possible to continue to work with the laser.

Check list:
• Check on the Chiller page in LaserNet what causes this warning
• If the warning is caused by the water conductivity:
• DI cartridge inside the chiller should be exchanged soon.
• If the warning is caused by a hight or low temperature for the water for the
external optics or the laser:
• Compare water flow threshold inside laser specifications with the present
water flow. If this value is closed to the threshold check water level inside
chiller. Refill water if necessary.
• Change the setting at the chiller to a higher or lower temperature (max.
0.5°C) depending if it is caused by the lower or upper limit.

3. Beamswitch

3.1. Mirror active

The signal Mirror active is high indicates a request from controller for this channel. If all
safety circuits are closed and no internal failure status of beam switch and process
fiber is present the mirror will move to ON position or is already in ON position. In this
case the signal Mirror ON will be set to high.

If the signal Mirror active is high and the signal Error is active please check the
following things:

• Are there any other alarm signals present for the beam switch? If yes please
follow instructions for this alarm messages.
• If no other alarm message is present please check status of interlock lamp at
the front side of the laser. The beam switch will open interlock circuit if the
cabinet door/s from the active channel are opened. Please see diagram below.

3.2. Guide Laser ON

It indicates that the red guide laser for this channel is switched on.

3.3. Mirror OFF

Mirror OFF is active if the mirror is in off position. If all mirrors are in off position
emission is not possible.

3.4. Mirror ON
If the signal Mirror active is high, all safety circuits are closed and no internal failure
status of beam switch and process fiber is present the mirror will move to ON position
and the signal Mirror ON will be set to high.

3.5. Laser permission

This is a status signal from the beamswitch. It should always be present. If it is not
present please inform your provider of the laser system to clarify the next steps.

3.6. Cabinet door (A) & Cabinet door (B)

The cabinet doors are implemented into the door interlock system of the working
cabinet. If one or both signals are present the interlock circuit is not closed and the
mirror for this channel will not switch in on position.

Check list:
• Close the interlock circuit for this channel by closing the cabinet doors and
activate the safety system.
• If the interlock circuit is already closed check the connections.

3.7. Error
This signal is activated if one of the following signals is active:
• Scattered light
• FFBD
• Optical interlock
• Low water flow process fiber input / output
Or the signal Mirror active is high but it is not possible to switch the mirror in on
position because of low water flow at process fiber input or output, or the signal
Cabinet door (A) and/or Cabinet door (B) is active. Please follow the instructions for
the corresponding alarm messages.

3.8. Scattered light

If this signal is active the scattered light inside the beamswitch for this channel is to
high. Laser Ready will be cleared, emission will be switched off immediately and the
mirror switches off. Also the Error signal will be activated. Please inform your provider
of the laser system to clarify the next steps.

3.9. FFBD ( Fast Fiber Breakage Detection )

The FFBD signal will switch off emission immediately and the Error signal will be
activated. The Laser Ready signal will be cleared and the mirror will switch off. It is
activated if the scattered light near the process fiber input inside the beamswitch is to
high.

Check list
• Switch on the guide laser for this channel and check if it is visible at the process
fiber output.
• Check the alignment of the beamswitch for this channel
• Unplug the fiber from the beamswitch. Check the surface of the quartz block of
the fiber connector for damages. Exchange the process fiber if necessary.

3.10. Low water flow: process fiber output

The alarm message Low water flow: process fiber output will switch off emission.
Laser Ready will be cleared and the mirror will switch off. The alarm message
indicates a low water flow for the process fiber output.

Check list:

General:
• Check for closed water valves and for pressed or bended tubes.

Chiller:
• Check water pressure for DI-circuit.
• Check water level inside DI-tank. If necessary refill water.

Beamswitch / FFC
• Check water flow threshold level at flow switch. The minimum water flow for
process fibers is specified by IPG with 1 l/min. In special cases the water flow
threshold can be decreased after receiving permission from IPG Laser.

3.11. Low water flow: process fiber input

This alarm will switch off emission, Laser Ready will be cleared and the mirror will
switch off. The alarm message indicates a low water flow for the process fiber input.

Check list:

3.12. Optical interlock

The alarm message will immediately switch of laser emission. The signal Laser Ready
will be set to low, the Error signal will be high and the mirror will switch off. This alarm
message indicates a possible damage of the process fiber of the laser.

Check list:
• Check if the red guide laser beam for this channel is visible at the end of the
process fiber. A not present guide laser beam indicates a damage inside the
fiber. The same is valid if the guide laser beam has no round shape in the focal
plane. In this two cases please call your provider and inform him about the
damage.
• Check status of interlock clamps inside the optical head. Use hex. key to
tightened the interlock clamp screw carefully. Do not tighten the screw to the
final position. There is risk of damaging the interlock clamps

Bayonet fixing with hex. screw

• As a last resort check the interlock resistance. Therefore unplug the fiber from
head. Close the head and the fiber with the corresponding caps. Measure
interlock resistance through the fiber. It should be more than 1kΩ and less than
1MΩ.
• Inform your provider about the failure to clarify situation and service time
schedule
