MENTAL HEALTH AND SUICIDE

DEPRESSION
Depression is a key risk factor for suicide, and evidence suggests that a majority of those who take their own life have
depression or another mood disorder.

Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder is a serious mood disorder characterized by dramatic shifts between periods of depression and high-energy
phases (known as mania or hypomania). Both phases of bipolar disorder are associated with a heightened risk of suicide.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, is a mental health condition that develops in the aftermath of a traumatic event such
as sexual violence, a natural disaster, military combat, or a serious accident. Because PTSD can cause serious emotional
turmoil and markedly reduce someone's quality of life, it is sometimes implicated in suicide.
